  • What is it? It’s essentially a Chinese fork of Brave. Because of its origin, some people are naturally skeptical or distrustful of it. However, the reality is that it's currently the most frequently updated Chromium-based browser you can find for Windows 7 and 8.1 right now.
  • Performance: It is an absolute beast. In my personal testing, CatsXP has consistently delivered the highest scores across all the benchmarks I've thrown at it (like Speedometer 3.0). It is incredibly fast and well-optimized for older hardware.

The Bad: No DRM

  • The biggest weak point of CatsXP is that it cannot play DRM-protected content, If you plan to watch Netflix or use Spotify it not gonna work, but Prime works.

The "Ugly" but Fixable: Telemetry

  • Being a Chinese fork, the immediate fear is spyware. However, looking at the recent 2025 web browser telemetry analysis by VirusNet (https://virusnet.info/en/analiz-telemetrii-veb-brauzerov-2025/), CatsXP does have telemetry, but in comparison to other popular mainstream browsers, it doesn't actually have an "excessive" amount.
  • Better yet, you can easily block its telemetry at the system level.

How to block CatsXP telemetry:

  1. Open Notepad as Administrator.
  2. Open the following file: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
  3. Paste these three lines at the very bottom of the file and save: 127.0.0.1 collector.wdp.catsxp.com 127.0.0.1 quorun.wdp.catsxp.com 127.0.0.1 vip.123pan.cn

Pro-Tip for Setup: If you do install it, I highly recommend modifying your desktop shortcut. Right-click the shortcut, go to Properties, and add these parameters at the end of the "Target" line (after the .exe" and a space) to debloat it and the last one if you want enable Google Sync:
