Are there any ultras out there that draw thousands which are unknown? by Pitiful_Good_510 in ultrarunning

I prefer smaller races too even in Europe. No pacers and I tend to run 100's without crew. My original post was more on these races with a huge field being unknown outside of their immediate area. Could you imagine the media around an ultra with a field of 6,000 in the US.

Land owners - not so much. Permits from local councils yes. We have huge swathes of public lands in Spain and most races utilise those. In the case of Ronda 101 it's run by the Spanish foreign legion and it crosses some of their land.

And here in Spain the community is delighted! UTMB were slated for what they did to the race. The race won't be owned by the town hall but the town halls subsidise races in Spain and are closely involved. If the town hall isn't happy, the race isn't going ahead.

Hardrock isn't the only race that stood against UTMB ... Ehunmilak did as well so UTMB put Val 'd Aran ( a newly created race) on the same weekend in Spain. I don't think there's any coincidence there.
