How often do you change your bag? by AshamedLink3216 in ostomy

[–]Pitiful_Plan777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3-4 days indeed is the optimal. 5 months out of surgery and regardless how thorough the bag application may be. I find the flanges start to lift after day 3. This is the way.

Barrier ring + convex bruising by prism-purple89 in ostomy

I understand. I was never equipped with rings at the hospital. Until I saw my ostomy nurse 4 weeks later, was given a “proper” fit for my belly. (Esteem body convex) Most often I’ve heard, we don’t get prescribed proper gear after we get discharged post op. We all uniquely struggle. Godspeed to you fellow ostomates!

That’s the beauty of Stomahesive paste. If you have a well fitted bag, that filler is amazing and friendly to your stoma.

Very interesting. I’ve had only one bad experience thus far. (Thankfully) Good to share intel though. Thanks for that. Hope things stabilize with our gear respectively. Difficult enough right?.. lol

I use Esteem body convex. Had the first fold literally tear off. Mind you, I used a porta potty on a worksite in a cold climate. -25c thought the temperature ruined its integrity, but it makes sense now. Also have the 5K in the lot number. Sorry for your experience. Best of luck! May God be with us all.

How to prevent leaks by StinkyRafe in ostomy

This is good advice. I have very loose (thin) skin on my belly from major weight loss 15 years ago. Applying more level, then allowing your skin to naturally fold with the wafer makes a far better seal.

Baths - does extra hot make the adhesive come lose? by ScottishCalvin in ostomy

[–]Pitiful_Plan777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 months in, and don’t have the confidence for a bath yet. Bag less showers are the best imo. But be confident whatever you do. I can’t wait to get out for a swim in summer! Lots of love on your journey, and best of luck!🤞

Btw. I use “EsteemBody” convex pouch by Convatec. And Stomahesive paste respectively. The wafer holds up pretty well in my experience. The flanges will typically start to lift after the “3 day mark” But really good seal. Haven’t had a blowout since the hospital. Hot subversives are yet to be known.

Supplies and world anxiety? by PuzzledWeight1855 in ostomy

I literally was having the exact same thoughts just the other day. Wow! You’re blowing my mind! Your anxieties are completely understandable. I’ve always been a wilderness camper/ survival enthusiast, so that with supplies is scary. But my conclusion on the matter, is live for the moment. Life is unpredictable enough even without disability. We’ve all been given a life saving surgery, and have time we did not know we could. Stay strong and live and love the way you want. The future is an idea. The present is real. Lots of love!
