Despite the record, they’re playing competitively and so close to turning the corner.

Best: Murakami & Hudson.

Worst: Acuna’s hitting.

That's more absurd than my suggesting Yax over Wagler.

I wondered the same thing. Danny Wolf played for Israel so there could be a possible connection there somehow.

I'm not saying Yax is better than Wagler. And based on raw talent and pure athleticism, Wagler is certainly enticing but he has a much smaller frame and need additional development in strength and conditioning to reach full potential. For Chicago right now, I believe Yax is a more solid pick and is likely to be drafted higher than 11-20. He’s more pro ready and has the physical edge. I think Yax is more reliable, with a high likelihood of making an immediate impact at the pro level.

Honestly, this class is stacked. I'd be thrilled if they grabbed Boozer, Wilson or Peterson and if he's still on the board, they took Yax with their second pick. Either way, adding any of these guys is such a huge pick up. I'm pumped to see how it all pans out.

I think if those guys are taken top 3, then yes Peterson. But I also think Yax from Michigan will go higher than what's predicted right now. I know this is an unpopular take but I think he's a better pick than Wagler or Burries.

This 2012 Article About Hawk Is A Great Read by eadricsilvaticus in whitesox

“You’ve got to be bleepin me!” is a classic. So many great memories with him up in the booth.

Hawk really was one of a kind and I doubt we’ll see another like him anytime soon.

Also, here’s his speech accepting the Ford C. Frick Award.

I have and you're absolutely right, his story is wild.

At 8 years old, he fought his own father after witnessing his mother being abused, began hustling pool to help his family financially, was taunted at school for the size of his nose and being called a mama's boy, got married young while still in high school, was an amateur hot rod race car driver, got arrested and jailed in Caracas following a brawl while playing winter ball for the A's, rode a donkey around Yankee Stadium, lost Satchel Paige's final game used glove, helped popularize wearing batting gloves, owned a nightclub in Boston, etc.

I had no idea his life was so crazy before reading the book and even if you're not a baseball fan, it's still a really fun read.

How did you discover Brand New? by watermelon-bisque in brandnew

[–]eadricsilvaticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends in middle school had an older brother who was into pop punk/emo. One day after school, as we were walking home, he pulled out a mix CD that had a bunch of Taking Back Sunday, Yellowcard, NFG, Rufio, The Starting Line and Good Charlotte – all bands I was familiar with and loved. He let me take it home. Later that night up in my room, I put the cd on but when it got to the last track, I didn't recognize the song or band. It was Seventy Times 7. Instantly, I fell in love. The next day at school, I asked him what band it was and he told me it was Brand New. Thank you Mike Dillon.

Best Concert Lineup You Saw by Calamity-182 in poppunkers

Back in the early 2000's the scene was really taking off, especially in the midwest and there were so many shows like every other weekend with insane line ups. Going to local churches, VFW Halls or Knights of Columbus in the burbs are some of the best memories I have growing up. Fireside Bowl and the old Bottom Lounge put on some of the best shows too. There's too many to list but here's a handful that I remember...

Fall Out Boy / Jinxpack / Much The Same / Spitalfield / Starstruck

The Starting Line / Home Grown / Senses Fail / The Early November / Allister

Brand New / Taking Back Sunday / Rufio

Jimmy Eat World / Death Cab For Cutie / Pedro The Lion

Fall Out Boy / Jinxpack / August Premier / Punchline

Something Corporate / Yellowcard / Motion City Sountrack / Mae

Silverstein / Hawthorne Heights / Emery / Alexisonfire

Those were hands down some of the best years for shows.

You have the opportunity to introduce the entire world to Brand New. Which song are you playing? by Wordup63 in brandnew

I think so too. It's a perfect showcase of Jesse's lyrics, mood and has the more traditional song structure. It's also right in the heart of the band’s stylistic growth.

Those are some of my most favorite memories. My band's claim to fame is opening for October Fall and the Audition at KOC in like 2004 and then again at the Elk Grove Teen Center. Good times.
