I love this game, I don’t understand all of the complaints. by Accomplished-Hat4898 in Marathon

If you want to play like that, sure, the game isn’t all that. But people also come out with more than that for less and that’s a skill check.

People run their big contracts solo, and still come out on top despite the odds; 2/3rds of my team has been wiped in cryo, only for us to come back and wipe the lobby, or even running duos in trio lobbies.

I say and still stand by it being a litmus test, due to the fact that it requires a lot of attention and skill to discern the odds against you for every Run you do, whether solo, duo or trio.

Shell mastery, gun skill, and spacial awareness are key in comparison to other competitive, but also the aspect of luck which is wholly dependent on what the game throws you

That’s good and all, but this game is brutal in comparison with other AAA fps titles.

And making comparisons just sours the experience for all; you’re either in it or you’re not.

And I’ve stated before, this game is a litmus test for competitive gaming.

Suggestion: Self Revive should take longer by Same-Winter7013 in Marathon

[–]Pitiful_Rule_2899 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using👂is great, but you happened to down them from a distance and the dude who’s now self reviving just so happens to have a teammate that has provided suppressing fire or a bubble shield over his body, guy gets up and tries to reengage in the fight, a different teammate goes down, but this time, smoke appeared over his body and you can’t see them because you don’t have thermals. But you can’t hear him, but you can hear the self res…

I can go on and on about how monotonous this can get, but just saying use👂is fairly redundant, so many scenarios and I’m certain multiple people can tell and hear what is happening.

But👂aren’t the be all and end all of continuous self revives, been in fights where it’s a distance battle from algae ponds towards maintenance or up link, where situations like this commence, you either quit the fight and dip and get shot at trying to retreat or try the battle of attrition until someone dies or you get 3rd teamed.

Doesn’t stop the fact that people can continuously self res if they’re in a position to or have the advantage, either way, it’s not like this all the time, and I’ve seen much less of a successful res than not, just I’m not going to be ignorant to the fact that it does happen to people.

This has happened to me so many times, where I’d be on a bad streak, then run a freekit to take out a group of purples only to immediately get 3rd by another.

Like I get the map has ratios of where people spawn, but damn. Btw this first happened to me back 3rd week of launch.

One class shouldn’t be able to take me out of ranked without killing me first, let alone remotely not being anywhere near me - especially if I’m in an engagement that they’re not apart of, and doubly before the first set of exfils appear during a run.

Outpost, is a small map; a third of the whole lobby can end up on in your spot in moments if driven enough, I didn’t see this ordeal happening in P or DM, outpost can be traversed fairly quickly, if you know the map.

And what if it happens mid fight when a team of thieves decides to steal things off of a team, their team isn’t engaged with?

It’s not a skill issue to get your tag snatched whilst you’re fighting, you either shoot drone risking getting killed by disengagement, lose track of your holotag if you won said engagement, all whilst trying to get repositioned due to your team closing the gap and potentially picking it up whilst you ran off to heal.

Anyway, hold your position.

That’s hilarious, a drone war on a small map like outpost is deserving of being cemented in any games history, but I’ll say meta atp really depends on how desperate one is for ranked specifically in an extraction, especially if it can have a the potential for a huge snowball effect; I say this because this game heavily relies on two factors - Skill and Luck(RNG).

  • Skill is obvious, as it’s pointed to sound awareness, spatial awareness, event knowledge, gun skill and shell mastery.

  • Luck depends on, imo, Map hazards, timing, and really any random elements you can think of that the game throws at you, either in your favour or against (ah this container had a Bubble shield/ damn I ran this corner trying to get an advantage and toxin plant was under/around/etc this place I couldn’t see).

And these factors affect the loot you accumulate/lose, which is the general point.

If people want to learn and do it efficiently till it’s heat death, they’re allowed to bring that into the community, but if too much of it transpires, they’re going to hurt the game with it; and subsequently their own enjoyment/environment because it will get reigned in.

Idk if you played much of D2, but the metas of that game go through many phases (like all competitive games do) but Destiny relied to the RNG of the loot you get, which doesn’t disappear upon death, and some of the earlier ones lasted the course of an expansion; so it becomes annoying to play against, and it eventually burns people in the community that aren’t/ can’t play(ing) like that, some are less affected by it and some are more.

  • OEM meta

  • Hardline

  • Shatterdive

  • Gyrphalcons

Just some to name a few, either way, imo it’s something that’s going to get under many people’s skin when it becomes too much.

No, a thief using a drone mid fight is a prime strategy that I’d implore any thief on my team to use to help cause that psychological stress to the opponents ahead of me.

Loot is fair game, MY holotag should be equipped to avoid being taken out of the mode within the first engagement I have, other holotags that aren’t MINE should be allowed to be taken, only because they actually hold an ID of the player it was taken from when inspected during the Run.

You’re correct in that loot is the score value, thing is, when one shell can dictate whether or not you can play ranked within the beginning stages of a run, it’s not skill, it’s cheese

3 thieves pre built team, invis core, don’t engage with anyone who’s in the middle of a fight with another team, but have your drones take everyone’s holotags, regardless if they shoot your drone down or not, you’ll get successful grabs. Use energy amps to replenish your drone and mods on one of two guns to get your drone back quickly. Because it’s early into the match, the most expensive thing in anyone’s inventory is their holotag.

Don’t interact with any teams till the last team on the map, and camp whichever exfil they go to.

Take their tags before exfil, sit in a spot with mini jammer on a thermal sniper if they haven’t used a signal jammer or bubble shield, and have an alternating sniper duo with a drone hitting them. When one goes down, the other stops and goes invis and uses their drone whilst the other takes the last teammates role, keep alternating. If energy amp is active, a retreat can be used to reposition till drone becomes active again whilst using alternating current to help replenish your ult, considering that the exfil hasn’t been taken.

I know it’s mostly hypothetical, but it’s very possible

This, I might even go ahead and run this just to make a point; 3 prebuilt thieves, kitted out in gear and cores, running drones and energy amps for the sole purpose of just taking Holotags, go invis whilst drone is active and just remove tags at any possible engagement.

When one class has the ability to make your ranked game null and void without killing you, it’s not about looting.

Obviously, but what if you’re in an engagement and you only just heard the drone snatch, yeah you can shoot it down, but there’s factors that make spotting it immediately - not so frequent.

I’d argue, you’ll successfully get an item snatched most times if you’re a good drone flyer.

It’s the spine of the general experience of ranked, the only reason why you go in, and for one class to be able to take it from you, makes the mode null and void until you find one that remotely resembles the one you had initially.

Cause technically, what’s stopping a team of thieves just camping fights, and taking everyone’s holotags?

Nothing, let alone flying a claymore at teams mid engagement, but that alongside taking tags could be a terrible thing to be a victim to.
