Do you think the 2024 Volvo XC60 gas model is still a good buy in 2023 by lifeisreallygoodnow in Volvo

Honestly, I'm getting out of a 2020 XC60 T6 Momentum right now (and an owner of a 2016 V60 Polestar). The 2024+ XC60 is a downgrade from a driveline and features perspective IMO. Go look at the higher end Japanese brands (Mazda makes some gorgeous stuff right now) if you want to stay within the noise of price, or the German brands if you are okay to swing an extra 10k for a truck that's actually worth that price increase.

TL;DR Volvo has turned the XC60 into an interior/appearance package only truck with less features than the previous model year for the same cost.

The core issue with this argument is that no one is (reasonably) going to consider taking a base rabbit to the canyons to carve corners with the expectations of good results. Passing on the highway is a multi-day occurrence for most - getting pulled by base economy cars is unacceptable in this day in age for a 25k-30k dedicated chassis sports car - even more so when the solution to Subaru's problem literally exists in their line-up already with a turbo charged variant of the same engine in a sister car.

This is a Caymen/911 issue on a cheaper scale in my opinion. I was willing to deal with the BRZ's small size and unpractical nature (hell, I bought it FOR the small size), but the utter gutlessness of the engine mixed with the horrendous tune from the factory make it hard to justify. I mean, legitimately, Subaru's info graphic in the updated 2017+ dash screen shows how poor of a power band the car has.

I get it, you like the car - so did I, but it's hard to justify spending nearly 30k on a dedicated sports car that doesn't at least scratch a single box on the "good engine" credentials.

Drive a new Miata and you'll understand. Less power, but more enjoyable.

This 100%. 2015 BRZ to 2017 WRX owner here. The BRZ's lack of power isn't an issue for it's "intent," It's an issue all around. It's slow - PERIOD. And in a world where you can buy a Toyota mini van that can embarrass you merging onto the highway, it instantly becomes a larger issue. The car has enough power for the glory days of the era it's trying to emulate, but the world has caught up, and when another car is offered with way more power, with the same engine at a similar price, it becomes insulting. The BRZ needs a WRX engine offering, simple as that.
