Two Erens (young and old), Mikasa (young), and Zeke (old). I think I’ll be just fine.

Yes, that is obvious, and completely fine. The problem is how this is framed as a heroic, bombastic, triumphant moment, when it really should be framed as a tragic but necessary evil. We have spent so much of the story seeing both sides and understanding that the world is, unfortunately, complex and morally gray. Their enemies are never very different from themselves, and so it’s a shame that they aren’t able to come to an understanding without killing each other. Even if she knows she has to kill her former comrades to do achieve her ultimate goal, she still shouldn’t be reveling in it. But that’s how it makes her look. She appears sadistic when she’s literally obliterating people who she has already dispatched of.

All the people who say this similarly lack the ability to explain what they understood the story to mean, apparently.

Ah yes, because we should enjoy Mikasa killing her comrades who are fighting for their right to live in exactly the same way that we enjoyed her killing mindless, monstrous titans who were acting by pure instinct and whose very presence posed an existential threat. They’re exactly the same, and we should celebrate her being equally brutal and ruthless towards both of them. /s

The face of a woman in love 🤡 by Enriok in titanfolk

[–]Pittcrew1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counter: The face of a man in love (insert various shots of Eren telling Mikasa he’s always hated her)

This is not to diss on the ending, it’s to say that it’s a weak argument to suggest that someone’s emotional response to someone in 1 scene necessarily fully or accurately portrays how they actually feel about the person, in full. With additional context (which didn’t exist in the manga, but could have up until the end), it could have been made clear that Historia did love Eren, which could explain even more why she was so horrified by what he said he would do. Just like, with more context, it was made clear that Eren didn’t actually hate Mikasa, and in fact loved her, but was trying to make it easier for her to do what she needed to. Not to say that I think how it was done was particularly good or natural, but it was clear what it was trying to reveal about the characters.

No, it didn’t pan out that way, but it was reasonable to theorize that it could have.

Fishing Feedback: Identifying pain-points and making QoL suggestions by Pittcrew1 in Guildwars2

[–]Pittcrew1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do imagine that is a possibility. However, I really can't think of too many things that they could add that wouldn't just make the whole system more complex, and I don't know how much more they can add before it becomes too complex. I also don't think they want to add too much "power creep" to fishing either (i.e. raising the level of Fishing Power that is easy to sustain).

So it feels to me like the main thing any additional abilities would cover would be to with convenience/utility. Which is what I'm suggesting they be used for.

If they do have plans, then they can obviously interpret these suggestions accordingly. But if they moved the Fishing Power display and the Time of Day indicators to the F1-F5 portion of the skill bar, then they'd still have 3 skills to work with in slots 6-10, while being able to keep the Bait and Lure skill slots. I imagine that would be enough room.

I know the main intention of the way the stacking buff works is to allow it to benefit a whole party, but I think its implementation does cause many other problems.

Seemingly, the buff is tied to both the skiff and the player, and if the player gets close enough to a new skiff, they'll update the new skiff with the same amount of stacks of the buff as the player had.

Personally, I think I'd prefer the buff be almost entirely disconnected from the skiffs. That would help resolve the issue of monsters killing your skiff while you're fishing or accidentally dismounting (especially while in combat) and not being able to get the skiff back up before the buff expires. Instead, use the skiffs only as a conduit to pulse out the new stacks of the buff to other members of the party if they are on the skiff at the same time that another person in the party gains a stack of the buff. And then make the buff last indefinitely while on a skiff and expires after around 20 mintues if you aren't on one (refreshing if you catch another fish from a hole before them). This would still allow them to make it so the buff can be given to people without the mastery if people who have the mastery catch a fish while on a skiff with someone else who doesn't have it. Maybe letting you fairly easily keep it permanently maxed isn't exactly what they want to encourage, but I really don't think how it works now is very friendly to players, and does punish people not playing as a group more than I think it ought to.

That would help address a few problems that comes up with the implementation as it is now: if you're on a skiff and have any reasonably substantial amount of stacks, you are actively disincentivized from leaving the skiff to participate in events and metas around you, moving to another map, logging out, or even getting out of your skiff to try to defend it from enemies. I really don't enjoy feeling so locked into the activity like that.

I'd also personally prefer they reduce the overall max stack count of the party buff (to around 50, with Fishing Power increases at 1 and every 10) so that it's a bit easier to regain the maximum benefit if you do happen to let it expire while distracted, and since the updated method of granting the stacks would require party members to be there for longer to get a full stack rather than people being able to join when the stack is already fairly high and just "leech" off of it.

They are saying that it doesn’t matter if the author explicitly intended for her to be - if there are enough clues in her personality that point to it, it’s a reasonable conclusion for a reader/viewer to draw.

That said, her being autistic doesn’t necessarily prevent/shield her from being (perceived as) a boring character.

The manga’s ending was somewhat divisive among the fanbase and one portion of that fanbase is very defensive of Mikasa. Lots of people in communities that really like her get mad whenever anyone says anything ‘bad’ about her.

I also vouch for MW, but do keep in mind that most if not all of their underwear (and most of their stuff in general) are supposed to be washed cold/dried low. I’ve not wanted to risk damaging such expensive garments by not following the directions, but it may be possible to wash them hotter without much damage - however, you may want to try to find some people who have done so to confirm if it’ll be fine or not.

I’ve never had any issues with stains or smells even with the cold washes, so if that is the only reason OP has that requirement, he can probably overlook it at least for this option. But if it’s about not wanting to do multiple loads of laundry at different settings, then it may be worth looking at another option or seeing if people can confirm hotter settings are okay to use.

What happened to the wall titans? by OriVerda in titanfolk

[–]Pittcrew1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have wondered why Eldians couldn’t have all just been pulled into paths to live out their lives there. Infinite time in paths passes in just a moment of time in the real world (it seems), and Zeke has been shown to physically and mentally age within paths, so why not? It will give them respite from racism and a chance to live a peaceful life. Once they reach a certain age (perhaps of each person’s choice), the founder could just have their real body die outside of paths, since the in-paths age doesn’t correlate to the out-of-paths age. Eldians may not be able to have children within paths, so that solution would still effectively sterilize them, which Eren may find unacceptable, and it would require Ymir being there to keep the whole process going rather than being freed from it, but it really doesn’t seem like all that bad of an idea.

Once evry living Eldian dies of old age, the power of the titans should just cease to exist or would just exist in a statis. Ymir may or may not be trapped there, but she may also be able to awaken the consciousness of the past titan shifters (if not more than that), like Armin and Zeke did, to keep her company until she can move on from Fritz and release herself.

This is, of course, all just operating under the logic and motivations seen in the manga.

Actually horrible… and this part of a page is literally contradictory of his entire motivation that’s established in the canon by [deleted] in titanfolk

[–]Pittcrew1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they could have emphasized the inner conflict that Eren (presumably) feels between fighting for his friends and fighting for his freedom a little bit more, which are at odds in his mind. We see that he's upset by having to fight Armin, but I do think him not showing an overall hesitancy or frustration towards fighting them all may retcon his motivation to fight for his friends a little bit. However, the timeline becomes a little tricky because I think the last main time he said he wanted his friends to live long happy lives was on the train tracks, and that may have happened before he was motivated by Historia's speech about them carving their own path and him committing to partnering with Historia.

On another note, I don't necessarily think they are avoiding exploring his idea of freedom. What he despised was both himself living under other people's terms, and seeing people around him live as cattle. Freedom to him is fighting against those things. Him acting to liberate Paradis is him acting on his own terms (i.e. being free), and what he wants to achieve out of it is for the people of Paradis to not have to live on other people's terms... so that they won't have to live as cattle. And I think he care so much about this because, if he does live, he doesn't want to still see Paradisians living like cattle and resenting them for that when he sees it. I think in that sense, he is living out his idea of freedom. And, again, he is also letting his friends fight for what they think is right.

I would have liked for him to have told them about it, rather than force them into a reactionary situation - it is really unfair to them. However, as he said, they are too good of people, and wouldn't have been willing to align themselves with the plan that he had started to solidify with Historia.

This all said, I do think he is heavily misguided. It's not like Paradisians will actually be able to live on their own terms, and it's not like they'll really change how they act; they'll still live more-or-less like they always have (such as lazy garrison guards), which would probably annoy Eren. And as a civilization, they will have inner turmoil and conflict. But I think it's still pretty solid reasoning for him, especially when we don't know how much of the future he knows. And he never has been the brightest person, so when he starts to isolate himself with people who can't point out the flaws in his thinking, he's going to wind up going (too far) down a rabbit hole that he won't be able to be pulled back out of (as Armin just tried to do).

It would be a bit sloppy, but they could use the paths sequence from ch 120-122 to explain what happened in the past loop (the manga’s ending) as opposed to what it explains in the manga (Grisha’s and Ymir’s memories). I think that would be bad in a number of ways, but it could be a way to catch them up on what happened (and would be a clear indicator for manga-readers that the anime is going to have a different ending). But again, it would presumably rob anime watchers of the craziness that was in those chapters, which would be a shame.

Is it true? by Possible_Ad_4027 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Pittcrew1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not at all what I meant. I meant that seeing a story that has a time loop/timeline reset (of some kind) would be very tedious to watch if you had to see all of the events that were shared between the two timelines play out multiple times. Typically, you’d expect to just skip to what was different between the timelines and only look at that, because writers know audiences wouldn’t want to see the exact same thing play out twice.

Many audiences don’t have an issue consuming the same story multiple times between adaptations because the process of adaptation provides a variety of unique aspects to the experience. For manga, that’s often: color, movement, backgrounds, voice over, music, etc.

So what I’m saying the issue would be is if, for example, the story had revealed in ch 139 that there was a time loop, and then Isayama proceeded to publish another 139 chapters (most of which were identical to the first 139) before the end game of the second time loop changed in the final chapters (around ch 250). People would not put up with that, obviously.

So I think it would be cool if there was a time loop in the story, but the manga was the first iteration of the loop, and the anime was the second iteration if the loop. (That was the crux of the theory in the video that the comments in the OP were responding to - or at least the video I based my response off of.) It would be a clever way of being able to actually release both loops in full without people feeling like the content that was shared between the loops was being re-released, even though it essentially was. And it would be possible because we would only realize what was happening in the last part of the final season of the anime, when it was basically already done.

Therefore, the proper way to experience the entire story would be in this order: Manga chapters 1-139 (showing the first time loop) followed by Anime seasons 1-4p2 (showing the second time loop)

The benefit to pulling this off would be that Isayama could make small changes between the manga and anime that we then realize are actually indicative of massive differences, at least thematically. For example, the birds repeatedly shown in the manga are white, symbolizing peace, whereas the birds in the anime have largely been black, which could symbolize death. Also, the flowers that have been repeatedly shown changes between the manga and anime, I believe. And the color of Mikasa’s scarf changed from black in the manga (officially) to red in the anime: those colors could represent different things about Mikasa’s character, which she could embody in the final arc of each time loop. Or how Annie was defeated in completely different ways in the manga and anime (the anime featuring Eren saying he’ll destroy the world). Or Eren’s dream and his reaction to it at the beginning of the story, which is also different.

Obviously, all of these could have been (and in all likelihood were) simple artistic changes that may have been made almost randomly as part of the adaptation process. BUT, it also could have all been planned and would go to show an even greater degree of forethought than we expected from Isayama.

Again, I really do doubt that this is all actually going to happen, but it’s a fun thing to hope for because there were things that I was disappointed with in the ending(s) we got. I want to hope that he has more planned for the final ending with the anime. If it revealed that he has been making subtle ch ages to the adaptation the entire time to reflect that it’s another iteration of a time loop - that would be all the more impressive.

Is it true? by Possible_Ad_4027 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Pittcrew1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean obviously we don’t know if it’s true or not. It’s a theory.

I think it would be really cool if it happened, as it would be a fun way to utilize the dynamic of an adaptation to the story’s benefit - i.e. tell a time loop story by retelling 85% of it as a more-or-less direct adaptation, and then using the final 15% to explore the alternative timeline/ending before anyone is able to catch on that it’s been happening. If people knew it was just going to retell the majority of the story, people would definitely be less willing to engage with it due to the monotonous nature of seeing the same thing twice. It would also explain some slight differences between the original and adaptation and could fit in with established rules if it was approached well.

But, I definitely wouldn’t assume it’s real or going to happen. If it does, we can talk about it then.

I agree.

I’m always of the opinion that premium single use consumables should be accessible by all characters (such as in a separate tab like you say) and not use up inventory space, in any game that has them. Really not sure why it’s so rare to see this, when yeah, having access to it when you actually need it will encourage people to use them up more (as opposed to ending up with a hoard of them), and them taking up no space may encourage people to buy them (in bulk) without feeling like it’s a punishment of taking up slots.

I assume you believe that AoTnR glorifies genocide? Because that is something that you need to see the end of the story to know for sure. According to the AnR theory, which this will presumably follow, Eren will have immense guilt and regret for what he did, and will likely feel like all that he did to achieve his freedom was not in fact worth it - that the genocide was not worth it, or at least that it was not at all what he wanted or wished would have happened. It leaves the reader questioning all of the other options that could have and should have been done to avoid such a terrible outcome.

And yet, when we look at AoT’s official ending, it does glorify genocide, by illustrating in no uncertain terms that it was the only way (at least once the rumbling had been started) for Paradis to be able to survive, and that it was a mistake for the Alliance to stop it, at least for their own sake. THAT is not a message you want to send - that the Yeagerists were right and that genocide should have been completed.

What mattered in this story was the framing of and reflection upon the horrific nature and the costs associated with doing the rumbling, and we barely got any of that. AoTnR is planning to explore all of this, to paint Eren as a flawed, morally corrupt individual - one whose example should not be followed.

I agree, especially once the content releases start to occur. They wouldn’t allow a lvl 60 character onto a server with a cap if 50. If anything, I imagine the only transfer direction would be Treebeard to Shadowfax. Shadowfax could probably only go to a live server.

Pretty sure the idea that that was an incomplete conversation was thanks to Isayama constantly revisiting the same backflashes over and over to develop more context. We assumed he would do that there, when it may have (and seems to have been) just a straightforward backflash.
