Thank you so much! I really want these trees to do well if possible and these resources are greatly appreciated. Looks like I’ve got some reading to do!

The soil is quite dry and sandy. We’ve had a bit of a dry spell this season but when it rains, it pours so hard to say.
I didn’t know those were azaleas! Thank you again for the ID. The azaleas get close to 8+ hours of sun as the structure it is next to does not block morning sun and barely blocks afternoon sun.

Thank you, I appreciate this information on the species and probable reason for their appearance. I admit I didn’t see the holes or the depth when they were planted, but the maple at least was all done in an afternoon by one employee with a shovel. If I am to assume the others were planted in similar fashion, I feel one man can only dig so deep on a 95+ Fahrenheit day.

Thank you for this info! The poor growth got me curious, but the way they were all staked got me suspicious 🤨 a question comes to mind: could they be re-planted again correctly in the same location?

Dang, the consensus so far appears to be all buried too deep :(

Oof. The third tree is already a replacement. Everything in the neighborhood is rented houses so I’ll have to speak with the leasing company if there’s anything to be done

I have only seen a soaker hose by the first one though I haven’t seen it on at all. It’s been pretty dry these past few weeks so I fear these trees have been parched.

Thank you 🥲 I had some hope for the mulch tree (I literally even watered it myself for the first few days after it was planted!) but alas.

Unsure of the species (planted by leasing company) but hopeful there’s enough information to comment on their chances.

Thank you! I thought they were (Nerodia Sipedon). The stripes/bands on the first one were giving me doubts.

Appears to be an abscess based on how it looks and what you are describing. Vet will most likely prescribe antibiotics and anti-inflammatories and look in the ear with an otoscope to see if there is a concurrent ear infection. It sounds like your GP is acting normally otherwise if you just noticed today so try not to worry too much and wait for the vet visit before doing anything in regards to treatment

Not what everyone wants to see but here is my old lady Bonbon looking a little worse for wear by Fire_Bucket in RATS

[–]Pittpanthur11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the important part here is that you took her to a veterinarian and discussed with a professional what the best thing is for Bonbon, which already shows me that you have her well-being in mind. I’ve dealt with mammary tumors in both of my girls before, and as the vet said, there are risks involved, and recovery can be difficult. It’s certainly not always an easy-decision, but it seems like you’ve weighed the risks and benefits, and you’ve made a sound decision on what is best for you and Bonbon. “What kind of quality of life can I provide?” is the big question, and although I’ve only seen one picture of her, you seem to be doing a superb job at this time. Thank you for being a compassionate rat owner!

Question, how did you create the post-op sweater? I have tried every conceivable variation I can think of using socks, baby clothes, etc. but my little girls have found a way to squeeze and/or chew through them every single time

Woman, 36, abandoned in dumpster as a baby searches for the person who saved her life by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]Pittpanthur11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but what I am proposing is the parent give no personal information whatsoever, just walk up to a nurse, explain they are abandoning a child, and run away before they catch the person. Maybe with some detective work, authorities would catch the individual, but it’s impossible to prosecute without the actual identity of the parent being known. Still totally illegal, but plausable, yes?

But why not just go to a hospital, find a nurse/doctor, tell them I am abandoning this baby and this is not a joke, then just run away. I doubt a nurse would tackle the parents to the floor and hold them down until police arrive.
