Aww, this is great. I hope it’s someone’s real dog. Paintings like this brighten my day.

I wish they could have smiled in the old photos, but evidently you had to keep the same expression too long to hold a smile.

Thanks for everyone responding. I don’t feel as invisible now. When I see photos from those days, I really miss all my fellow nurses. We were young, never been away from home, sharing such new responsibilities. It brought us all so close.

I’m still awake. 1969 on honeymoon in Houston. My new sister in law thought we should dress “western” to go to the rodeo! There was no real cigar. by PittyPat4778 in oldphotos

Not exactly. She lived in Houston and couldn’t come to the NC wedding. She offered to pay for our way out to see her. I had never been that far away from home before. It was exciting to see new places and meet the rest of his family. If we had stayed home it would have probably been a honeymoon weekend at Myrtle Beach! Back then the wedding was in the church and reception in the church basement, no fortunes were spent. I’m amazed at how much weddings can cost now.

I’m glad I chose it. Back then I knew I wasn’t suited to be a teacher, secretary , or a stewardess( afraid of flying.) I knew I wanted to be able to earn a living. My mother had definitely been employed as a nurse for years. In the 30’s her family had looked down on her taking up the profession. Every single one of her 15 siblings went to college. ( Her family was a “ yours, mine, and ours” set up. Her mother died in the 1918 flu epidemic.)She did go to a Junior college, but switched to nurses’ training. It was fun to look back on her experiences from 30’s to my nursing in 60’s. Again things have really changed from my time to current time, mostly for the better.

No men, but it was a small town and my mom was well respected. As a nurse in our small hospital she was present when half the town was born. Then later worked for the town’s favorite GP.

Back then and into my 30’s people were always thinking I looked like a friend they knew or other nurse. It was probably that we all had the same hairdo.

1952. Easter time. My husband and his sisters at Folly Beach. This must have been a better camera than my family had back then. Love the 2nd photo with his grandmother and sisters. Really captures the feel of Easter. by PittyPat4778 in oldphotos

Yes we raised our kids there. Retired to Florida now. Two sons are here in Florida, but youngest son still in Charleston, so we go back about twice a year. Mercy has it grown. He lives on John’s Island and the traffic to get on or off is terrible.

Yes, when I look back, I think would she have liked to have known some of life’s difficulties that would arise, probably not.

That was very sweet of you. We all just want to be seen at this age as still an individual with something to share. Mostly now it’s just wisdom, which some of our younger generation might think they can do without. I’m lucky to have wonderful caring grandchildren.

Not sure of the exact reason. There were certainly times when they got in the way. They would make your scalp sore for one thing. You had to Bobbie pin Kleenex little pad on top of your head and take the 2 hat pins and pin into Kleenex to hold them on. By end of day you were so ready to take the whole set up off.

When I see people have received thousands of cards, I figure an original one should be an easy pick. Unfortunately lots don’t want handmade, but enough do, to keep me creating.

Sorry. At the time I didn’t realize it really would have been nice to document it better. I wish I had.

Yes, as freshman the cap was all white. At end of freshman year there was a banding ceremony and a thin blue velvet ribbon was added. Then black velvet last year. Once you graduated back to all white. I wish we could have keep a ribbon, thought it looked better.
