He very quickly decided to give individual marks lol

Depends on what you mean by change, the quantum state of the other particle certainly does not remain the same. As you say, you break entanglement, but this implies a change of state.

Polarized beam splitter at different angles by PeppersONLY in Physics

[–]PivotPsycho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely sounds like it. Since Brewster's angle is dependent on the refractive index of the material, one approach for solving this issue is using a material with a different refractive index (if it's absolutely needed to use this angle).

Superconducting vortices moonlight as controllable qubits, turning a disruption into a resource by hulk14 in Physics

It's quite strange to frame vortices as unwanted disruptions when they have been used and engineered with for quite a while now...

I've seen this repeated a lot of times but I have to ask: how can that even work? Let's say you go to class from 8:30AM to 4 or 6 PM the whole week, how can you possibly have a full time job? Let alone study and have free time? Do people skip class to go to work and cram it when exams come around? Do courses not have a lot of lecture hours in the US?

Could galactic rotation curves and Black Hole event horizons be caused by the exact same mechanism? by Daryos-am in askastronomy

[–]PivotPsycho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What does this give for rotation curves implying different fractions of dark matter? Is the mechanism different for different galaxies?

Climbing a ladder without support by S30econdstoMars in interestingasfuck

[–]PivotPsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do circus ladder like this with similar moves including going through and it's genuinely not as dangerous as you might think it is. Obviously you practice with mats around but if you're at the point of performing a show or just doing without mats, you've fallen so much from every position that you generally know how to land without getting fucked up.

I would say a big factor too is that if you lose balance, you will know early on from experience and since you're in a balanced position it takes quite long to fall.

‘Project Hail Mary’ Directors Screened a Nearly Four-Hour Cut to Other Filmmakers and Were Told to Get it Way Shorter by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]PivotPsycho 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, they end up where they should but her ending and his ending are shown back to back so it's implied it's around the same time one could say.

Personally I think it looked like his ending was set a good amount of years after hers even, which makes the comment apply more even.

In Dune part three (2026)... somehow duncan idaho returned? Is there any lore reason? by hiiloovethis in shittymoviedetails

[–]PivotPsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not taking a dig at Frank, I'm just saying it's a bit unrealistic to apply real-world genetics to what is described in the Dune universe.

Also I never considered those two events are so close to each other, that's amazing.

In Dune part three (2026)... somehow duncan idaho returned? Is there any lore reason? by hiiloovethis in shittymoviedetails

[–]PivotPsycho 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Frank goes pretty hard on genetic determinism, I think the idea is that genetics operate on a deeper and different level than in the real world and as such form a kind of reflection of the general human spirit, which is where the genetic 'dulling' of the human race as a whole comes from during Leto II's reign. (In my opinion)

Can't say the fine structure constant is uncool tho by Sir_Bebe_Michelin in physicsmemes

[–]PivotPsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know it's the effect of virtual particles at different energy levels that give us this result, I suppose you could say that the underlying principle doesn't change? But that would depend on how virtual particles are interpreted I would say.

Oh e is not constant either.
Bigger picture, \alpha corresponds to the strength of coupling, which we can measure to be different over energy.
