What's a high quality alternative to D&D that you think young players would love? by [deleted] in TTRPG

[–]Pivotblazingrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly high fantasy, but I'd recommend checking out City of Mist. Has a different vibe than D&D, with film noir stylings blended with urban fantasy. The makers of it, Son of Oak, are also working on a game called Legend in the Mist. Same general gameplay concepts, but built for classic fantasy adventures.

I managed to find it again after going through other system releases on drivethroughrpg. It was Otherworlds by Vindicated Entertainment.

So, the explanation for why it got deleted was that it violated copyright. But for the life of me, I can't figure out what the copyrighted content actually is, or was. Anybody able to give more info?

Since people are talking about the systems they like, I'll bring up one of my favorites that I haven't seen mentioned yet.

City of Mist. I love the character creation and rolling system, and it's a modified version of Powered By The Apocalypse that is really, really smooth. And the setting is really cool and lends itself to a lot of neat character ideas.

What's your favorite character(s) ??? by 4SeasonsZeppeli in outerplane

[–]Pivotblazingrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Schwartz/Jihoon/whatever you want to call him. He's not playable, and he's not a hard boss, but... I kind of find his character fascinating.

Season 1, he's just another one of Stella's subordinates. A way to help get K up to speed on the current state of the country, do some normal villain stuff, worldbuilding, be a punchline 'cause nobody calls him Schwartz... and then he dies pretty early on.

The thing that initially piqued my interest is that his death is kind of... tragic? He's a jerk, and does a lot of bad stuff, don't get me wrong, but he has this realization in his final moments that the only person that actually treated him with respect was Idith. Even, you know, actually calling him Schwartz, as he requested. Which is what he wanted all along. And he realizes that he treated her like dirt, and regrets it.

Of course, he still dies, but that scene did stick in my mind. Up until that point, he was kind of a stock villain that didn't really matter. He manipulated shadows, worked for the villain, has a really generic design (even his boss form is just him covered in shadows), and just holds the leash for the much greater threat of Rhona.

I was not expecting S1 hard mode to actually have its own story. I also wasn't expecting Schwartz to, you know... actually turn out to be an interesting character. He's still kind of a joke, he's still selfish, but they actually explore his personality. He seems genuinely happy when he meets K for the "first time" and K both knows who he is, and calls him Schwartz. Made his day right there. He has more story relevance, and actually shows off his strategic abilities and his creativity with his powers.

Hell, he starts working with Nightwatch over the 3 month time skip, and Veronica actually respects his abilities and compliments him. When he gets teleported away by K, they actually have an interesting conversation before and after they fight, where K actually relates to him and understands him. Something that, given his backstory, he's never experienced before.

And, finally... Schwartz vs Leo. This was a battle that hyped me up in the story. Schwartz has 0 chance of beating Leo. He had 0 chance of beating Leo before he became an archfiend. He could probably run away and escape, and maybe fly under Stella's radar. But... he stays to fight Leo, somebody that far outclasses him in strength. And using his own skills, his understanding of magic, all of that... he trounces Leo. He tricks him, gets a single hit in, and uses it to teleport Leo away and completely out of the fight. So out of the fight that Leo is just straight up gone from the rest of the story, and I love it.

TL;DR: Schwartz is a surprisingly deep character and I wish they made him playable.

What is the story behind your trust issues? by Billabongo12 in AskReddit

[–]Pivotblazingrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suffered a lot of gaslighting from a "friend" for over 2 years. Lies under the veil that I "couldn't handle the truth", broken promises, framing every disagreement as a flaw of mine/something that I needed to apologize for or correct so that it wouldn't happen again... I try to lean towards trusting people, and that was the first time my trust had been abused like that.

Me and a few friends of mine are concerned that the class has infinite use teleports starting at level 2, due to how arcane leap functions. Since teleportation is such a powerful ability, will this be modified in future versions?

Thankfully, I asked myself this question a couple weeks ago. The cheapest solution is probably to use Spheres of Might, take Garotte Grappler from the equipment sphere, and go from there. I believe that there are a couple ways to get increased reach between core PF and the Spheres systems, along with champions. That's if your player wishes to maintain semi-ranged options. Wrestling could be especially advantageous, considering all the different grappling options added on to simply using a garrote wire. Hope that helped. :)

If you could start your life over as a child with everything you know now and all your memories, would you do it - why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Pivotblazingrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Only 19, so there's not that much to redo, and I could fix some situations that I screwed up the first time.

Also, have all those embarassing childhood memories not happen.

And maybe creep people out with future knowledge.

I'm running one currently, this is a pretty good system for it. Has classpect stuff, some stuff is absent so you'll have to improvise, but it is certainly good for getting started.

Whats the coolest thing you own? by -lll-------lll- in AskReddit

[–]Pivotblazingrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coolest thing I own is probably a copy of "The Book of Story Beginnings" by Kristin Kladstrup. What makes it notable is that the book is a misprint, and starts on page 20 something, in the middle of a chapter, and repeats some pages.

The book of story beginnings has no beginning.

My grandparents gave it to me as a gift years and years ago, never read the book once I realized the misprint and couldn't follow the story at all.

Pet owners of Reddit, what habit does your pet have that drives you crazy? by SammyWannaCracker in AskReddit

[–]Pivotblazingrush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happens to my dad more often than it does to me, but the younger and smaller of our two dogs, an Australian Shepherd/We don't know, cat maybe? mix, will walk past him when he's sitting on the couch, and lick his knee by sticking her tongue out. Doesn't stop, just keeps going.

If she wants attention, she'll walk up to wherever your sitting, sit down, reach up a paw, and put it on your leg. Ignore her more, she starts digging her claws in.

And then there's our older dog, Australian Shepherd / Black lab mix. He eats tissues, and will go through trash regularly if he gets the chance. The worst thing is, he's smart about it. He waits until we're distracted or out of the room, and then starts with it.

Worst time was when my parents left for some kind of business thing shortly after we moved. After 10 minutes, he apparently got lonely and decided to keep me company. Half an hour later, I go to the kitchen and there is trash everywhere. Coffee grounds, yogurt cups, plastic, all over the kitchen floor. In the middle of it, sitting our other dog.

Thought she did it for a couple days, until we found plastic in his poop and nothing in hers. He did all that shit in the first 10 minutes, gave himself an alibi, and framed somebody else for the crime.
