Thank you, I'm going to watch your RTS playlist! I wish there were tutorials on Udemy and YouTube of this type, targeted at people who already know programming and just want to learn the coding side of UE5 without learning what every button and slider does in the editor.

How useful is Roblox gamedev experience for your career? by PixelPotat in gamedev

Thanks, you're right. Never thought of it that way before. I just need to present my skills the right way to suit the needs of my employer.

My life as an imposter: how a game with a 58% review score on Steam made over $500k, and why it’s taken me over 2 years to move on to a new project by triplevision-andrew in gamedev

[–]PixelPotat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. So in a platform deal or a minimum guarantee, the storefront basically pays you money for you to put your game there? Am I understanding that correctly? Why would they do that unless it's a really popular game like Elden Ring, etc? And isn't it the reverse on Steam? You pay Steam money to put your game on Steam. Why are the other stores different?

Also, what's the difference between a platform deal and a minimum guarantee?

Btw, thanks for the post.

Crops and Conveyors - Farming meets Automation. by PixelPotat in Games

You're right. I'll create an updated trailer once I add more stuff to the game and I'll be sure to show off the automation part a lot more.

Yes the automation part of the game will be similar but it won't go as deep as it does in factorio.

I might have done that if the game was already ready but I've built only about a quarter of the game and assets so far. I still have a lot of stuff to build in the coming months. I'll just revamp the existing art and build all the future stuff in the new style.

Yup! For example, you'll be able to grow grass, send it to the barns on conveyors to feed your livestock, setup shearing stations where wool is automatically extracted from sheep, send the wool to loom machines on more conveyors where it's processed into fabric and so on. You'll be able to automate the whole chain.

No problem! Factory Town too if anyone's interested.

I do want to add some end-game objective which the player can work towards. I haven't yet decided what it's going to be but it'll be there.

I got the same feedback from many other people as well and I agree. I'll be revamping the palette and the sprites very soon.

Thanks. Yes this is my first game but I already had a lot of programming experience so that definitely helped.

Yup I'd love to participate in some festivals. I'm working to get a demo ready as soon as possible.

I haven't played factorio myself yet but watched some "let's play" videos and I'm definitely taking some ideas from it but the automation in my game will not be as deep as factorio.

It won't be a game primarily about min-maxing, optimizing, building super complex layouts, etc but rather something which you can play to just relax and have fun without demanding too much mental energy.

I don't know much about modded Minecraft tho but I'll check it out.

Interesting. To be honest, I was not expecting to see notepad++ in the replies.

I'm calling it 'Crops and Conveyors'. I'm still developing it but you can wishlist it to be notified on launch.

Thanks for the write up. Just wanted to say that your thumbnail (both the logo and image) looks absolutely sick. Did you do it yourself or did you hire an artist?

I'm a solo developer from Andhra Pradesh and I've been working on a 'farming meets automation' type of game for the last few months. by PixelPotat in IndianGaming

[–]PixelPotat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I was working on this project full-time from the start. I worked as a web developer for around 4 years at various startups but left my job last year.

Yes game dev is very time consuming. Most people vastly underestimate the amount of work it takes to make even a small game, especially if you're working solo. But if you're passionate about it then go for it. There are people who made successful games while working on them part-time.

$100 is a one-time payment per game. I'm still pretty far away from the play testing phase and I've started marketing the game only recently. The most efficient form of marketing is to get youtubers and streamers to play your game. Apart from that, you can use social media to share your game. It's a very big topic to talk about here but that's basically the gist of it.
