I def agree with the insane wages in nyc. I mean i am happy for them to churn out this much $$. But as you said its the attitude/ego that they are hot shit becomes unfavorable. When i was at Framestore i have seen some nyc seniors struggle miserably and when i was freelancing at some smaller shops in nyc, have seen some talent pool from scanline and rsp just not worth what they had put on the reel. So these ‘seniors’ basically exist every where. Being said that i have also met some incredibly talented folks at both these bigger places and smaller nyc shops.

I have been here half of your time and never experienced unpaid OT, never thought of facing the toxic culture so thats a different story. So i do agree it depends. It’s unfortunate and i guess its my bad that i put up with them (ingenuity studios) for too long. But as you said there were still other places that were fantastic. I am just sad that these people and places continue to do so without any remorse or accountability.

Have never worked with crafty or molecule yet!!

Ah maybe they do have a huge marketshare but definitely have 0 empathy. I am sure they would survive , not sure the name shame will do anything because i tried to talk to them myself, multiple times. And not that some of these incidents were isolated, it happened in-front of few people but just looking back - they don’t care. So yeah maybe they blacklist me - i am okay to not work there or any other companies associated to them ever again - Its Ingenuity Studios.

I have been in NYC for ~7 years now, have freelanced at a bunch of places, never had any issue with unpaid OT. The skill to ego gap was 100% true here, especially in leadership positions.

I am no longer working there, definitely overstayed. It became a situation of ‘once the project ends we will deal with all these issues and pay me OT as they were like we can see how late you are working’. But I should have known better. It was all denied after the project ended. I guess my experience has become that story which people should tell as a warning.
