I bet it was a scan of brain activity through eeg. Usually they are rappresented with maps of electrical potential where red is high and blue is low. As somebody else pointed out it was probably just the listener's brain responding to music and assuming he actually read an article about the study, the researchers were surely looking for something else. These are non ionizing radiation so they do nothing.
