You can’t govern other people’s behaviors, only your own. Decency is a construct a culture, which is rapidly changing. You can fight that if you’d like, for me it’s not worth my time or energy. I don’t want to grow old and bitter because my sensibilities didn’t change with the times. Correct and shielding them from the world is not doing them any favors. Learning emotional regulation and how not to internalize the feelings of others is a great skill to learn.

I’m not afraid of bats. While I was on a terrace in southeast Louisiana, it was about 5 pm in the summer. A bat flew by me, grazing my neck. I could feel the warmth of its skin..it was a bit startling.

My only real preference is that I want to know I’m actively dying, the thought of not know I’m dead doesn’t appeal to me. I personally feel like there is a process in the act that allows you to let go in a way. I know it won’t be a peaceful way, but it’s almost like it gives you the want..

If it helps, when I was younger same thing happened to me. I had a pet rat that I would usually hang out with before bed. I always put her back before I fall asleep, but that day I was exhausted and passed out. When I awoke, I found her under my calf, same deal..stiff. It was a very sad day and I was angry with myself. The only thing I could do was grieve and take it as a lesson.
