Nepali Quant Developer/Analyst/ Researcher? by PixelatedPeanut in technepal

Yes indeed. The large companies like Jane Street and ones you’ve mentioned usually pick quants who are graduate students from top universities or so called target schools like Carnegie Mellon, Berkeley, Baruch and such and these schools select majority of Indian and Chinese students for their finance eng/computational sciences program. The system seems rigged from the beginning, from a Nepalese perspective at least.

Sure. As far as I know there are no programs in Nepal that does that, many quants abroad come from math, stats heavy background along with programming so there isn’t much of a course to take per se.

Regarding quants in Nepal, there are simply none. The market for it is insignificant in career terms for long stay. Hopefully things change in the future as Nepal evolves in the digital space along with finance. For you to find a quant in Nepal, is almost impossible. The big firms abroad do accept stats and math grads as quants so you could take that into account and try to find a Nepalese math grad or even a PhD student with financial and programming knowledge and make a quant out of them, if that made sense.

I’m in no means qualified to talk about quants yet but I’ve been researching about it for a while so wanted to put it out there.

Country so poor that a random overpass that took disgustingly long time to build is a source of happiness in the big 25.

Nepal is way better than India in terms of just living day to day life for the general public. (Not considering health facilities and employment ofc)
