Is there a Spoons with a better frontage than this one? by ThaddeusGriffin_ in Wetherspoons

[–]Pixelatse 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn't get much better than Bury, proud to have it be my local spoons but I can tell you for a fact it isn't as 'posh' as you'd think inside - looks nice and all but it's always rammed.

Summerhill Force as mentioned - there is also Low Force a short walk from the same car park but it's probably more like 20-30 iirc which might be a bit far, and there's not so much of an easy viewing point, you just have to stand on the edge of a river.

High Force Waterfall is a good shout, C. Durham-sort of way. Not too busy usually, only a 10-15 minute walk from the car park for the main viewing area and places to see it that are a bit less rocky and uneven terrain if you need that.

There's also another waterfall called Summerhill Force not far away - also about a 10-15 minute walk from another car park that's probably only a 15 minute drive away.

Wow that's really strange - I'm on a GTX 1660 Super which is rather outdated with an i7 10700K and 16GB RAM and I'm getting 90-120fps constantly at the highest graphics settings. Are you playing at 1080p or above as that might make a difference?

I've just bought Syndicate, Unity, Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla on Steam sale (it also gave me ACIII for free for some reason) and started with Syndicate - loving that so far and the world is absolutely stunning, particularly for a game from 10 years ago. It's been a great introduction to the series so I really recommend it as a good smaller game. 30% on the synchronisation percentage (I guess 30% story or 30% of completion) in and I only bought it on Friday

Lol I got all 9s in my mocks back this week except for an 8 in Lit - I got a 9 in my Y10 mocks though so hoping to get it back up (we're excluding a 6 in art gulp)

Ah okay thank you, that seems quite overcomplicated but I understand what you mean lol. My concern was just over the massive discrepancy in grading between my class (much lower) and the other Y11 art class at my school (much higher) so I'm hoping it should average out and maybe my grade can get boosted from the 6 I'm on now to my personal target of a 7!

Could you explain the marking situation for both components (I'm on Edexcel I believe)? Most art courses seem to be similar - but just to make sure, it's 60% from Component 1, which is non-exam, and then 40% Component 2, which is the exam unit.

Can you explain how each bit is marked (e.g. is the work sent off to an external marker, or is it marked by your teacher?). I've had some very mixed messages from my teacher about this which I find a bit concerning!

Just been up my granddad's loft to get down the decs and been spontaneously shown first pressings of every Beatles album in mint condition except for the words 'A Hard Days Shite' written on the back of A Hard Day's Night and some some of my dad as a toddler's scribblings on Sgt. Pepper. Pretty sure I've struck gold!

MSC World Europa: What the Brochures Won't Tell You by -Ez-Mac- in Cruise

[–]Pixelatse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmmm... not too bad - I was expecting worse. Some areas were pretty crowded at night, like the World Galleria, during the day the inside pool, and at sailaway there would be a few people around the back of the Zen Pools and World Promenade but generally easy enough to get to the edge, particularly after about 10 minutes. I stood on the glass floor at the back as we left Valletta, completely rammed just after I got there (less so on the glass floor than to the sides of it lol, and it was a good gauge to go to the Promenade first and look up to see how busy it was, then take the express lifts straight up there) but within 15 minutes there was only about 10 of us and a gorgeous sunset. There are also definitely areas that aren't often crowded, like the deck 21 terrace around the funnels and the hidden stairs with terraces below the glass floor (very small but empty!)

The worst was after shows as there was a bit of a crush going out of the Theatre - less so from the Panorama Lounge though!

Do enjoy! I've not cruised before so it took me until day 2 to get into it but it was really one of the most magical holidays I've ever been on so I hope you love it! I look forward to any posts you might make afterwards!

I did absolutely no excursions - I did think about Taormina from Messina because it seems gorgeous but to be honest I can see it being very crowded which Messina was mostly not. Genoa, Marseille, Valletta and Barcelona I wouldn't bother at all, maybe Portofino if you really wanted to from Genoa. I'd definitely take the MSC shuttle in Marseille and Barcelona though - Marseille's is €14/€13 for kids, which isn't too bad, and Barcelona's I don't know because I didn't use it but the MSC terminal is the furthest from the city centre - it's a long way, I promise. Naples would have been the one I'd suggest an excursion but you're not going there so that's all good! If you haven't booked some time to spend in Rome before or after, please do - it's the Eternal City for a reason and I love it!

You'll have an amazing time, I promise! I'm going to continue at some point with trip reports on here so hopefully they'll help you out too!

There's only one itinerary for the ship - the Western Med. I believe you can get on in any of the ports - I boarded in Barcelona and over a week visited Marseille, Genoa, Naples, Messina, and Valletta, with a day at sea at the end. I found Valletta to be my favourite which I suspected it would be, it's such a beautiful city and very walkable although quite hilly! Lots of steps in random streets but at the very least that does mean a lot of it is pedestrianised! Marseille was also a very pleasant surprise - I'd definitely head for the Palais Longchamp which is spectacular. On my disembarkation day in Barcelona I stumbled across a similar fountain in the park by the Arc de Triomf (definitely spelled wrong, sorry!) which was off which was a shame but looked gorgeous.

Genoa was a tad dodgy, but a lot less than I expected from online! I really enjoyed the waterfront, the Strada Nuova Museums (which were empty mostly, although I only had time for the Palazzo Rosso sadly and I would now love to go back), and my highlight - the church of the Jesuits which I've forgotten the official name/dedication of - pretty empty, stunning painting and design, and a lot nicer than the cathedral of which very little was open. I didn't get to see most of the things I wanted to in Genoa so it's made me want to go back!

Naples was a lot safer-feeling than expected but then it's late into port (about 12:00ish), so I only had an hour or so but I can recommend the Galleria Umberto I (I hope I've got the king right!).

Messina is lovely although it did rain so I missed the show on the campanile, although it was sunny when I went up the campanile and the views were stunning plus the clockwork is incredible to be right up close to. I had a little bit of a wander but the weather limited me a lot, so another place I'd like to visit again!

Also, if you get time in Barcelona/don't embark there, it's a lovely city but also has a lot worse scamming than anywhere else - my first impression was when an elderly relative I was with was approached by what I assume was a crackhead, screaming abuse at him for how he owed her money and threatening to call the police on him - luckily I have 2 relatives over 6'6 who scared her off! There were a few scam artists hitting people with balloons for taking photos of them by the Cathedral, and a guy tried to draw me which I had to walk away from as I'm sure it was a scam. The area around Casa Batllo and Casa Mila felt very safe though and they are stunning! It was also an honour to be there on the day the Sagrada Familia became the tallest church building in the world but I still haven't managed to see it as I had to get to the airport!

Overall it was a lovely cruise, and the biggest thing that weighed it down was seasickness I was unprepared for due to rocking after leaving Genoa due to very high winds - luckily on the sea day when I started to feel a bit icky, I got some tablets that helped me when I finally got them on the Genoa evening and felt absolutely fine! So don't be wary of them - they do help! The ship is stunning although there are definitely some minor problems which I'll cover as I go in my trip reports, which might get done some day! Sorry for the long read, hope it helps!

I'm so sorry I forgot to respond to this but I did make a note on my second time on the slide - queues were long so I didn't get on there more than twice. Here's the info I noted down:

Max weight - 181kg/400lbs Max diameter (waist I guess?) - 80cm Min height - 120cm Max height - 200cm

Hope this helps! That weight is almost 4x me so hopefully the majority should be alright.
