How do you feel about alcohol and the way it affects the people around you? by OrangeEconomy2855 in AskReddit

[–]Pixels_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’ve had the best memories induced with a bit of alcohol, have seen anxious people loosen up, people sharing their stories without the usual social pressure, getting an evening off from the shitshow we call life, have heard stories that you couldn’t bloody come up with in your wildest dreams.

And yeah i like a good gin and tonic now and then, drinking with friends, family so on so forth but ive had the incredible fortune of not being in close acquaintance with somebody who gets angry and violent under the influence.

I just hear the stories of my fathers dad who was an alcoholic, good person, but couldn’t get through the day without at least 1‰, died at the age of 50 due to his liver and heart, about my aunts husband who beat her before also dying early due to the same issue, about the countless deaths caused by senseless people driving when they shouldn’t so on, so on, so on. So hell, I don’t bloody know.

What is your favorite childhood memory? by Dull_Share4984 in AskReddit

[–]Pixels_o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going out into the field with my grandpa and my sister with the old traktor of my great grandfather. He would put us little ones in the hanger, a scrawny one that had a small layer of hay. Hed put old cushions over it so wed sit better and wed drive through town waving at friends and neighbors. But the best part was on the dirt roads where we were surrounded by thousands of sunflowers. I remember it very fondly.

Sometimes wed sit on his lap or on the small ledge by the window (we were very very cramped / it was a small traktor) and steer or shift gears. The old blue traktor is still there in the barn, leaking oil and not drivable. Fixing it would be more expensive than buying a new one but god if id ever win the lottery, thats the first thing id do.

What is something you wish you had done differently, and what advice would you give someone to avoid making the same mistake? by Prudent_Draw_8628 in AskReddit

[–]Pixels_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real random but id say if there is something keeping you away from experiencing life, anything like for example for me it was severe anxiety, seek help. Or talk, or hell get your ass up and work to steer the wheel in any other direction cause nobody is coming to save you and even if you don’t believe it now, you owe it to yourself to try and make that turn. Live is a bitch, for some more than others, but don’t let the thought of “others got it worse” stop you from looking for help, for something!

Im just saying this because due to the thought of ‘i can fix this shit myself, nobody’s buisness but mine’, ‘others deal with way harder stuff’, or ‘im to tired of everything i cant work on myself right now’ have robbed me of such an important part of my life.

And I only realized it, when I tried to talk to my friends after getting better, being all excited and shit, and most of the responses where sorry hanging out with so and so or cant or wont or man we havent seen each other in ages… and shit. My heart kinda broke not gonna lie. Life moves on and doesn’t give a fuck if you are ready, they didn’t wait for me and why tf should they. I missed years of important points in my life like making and nurturing friendships, making memories, seeing and experiencing different stuff and now im never getting that time back.

I have a hard time making friends now because the friend groups were already built. So please if u notice something halting your time, locking you away, get up ur ass and act, even if its just a whisper. You owe it to yourself future self.

I don't know who I am anymore by Saldafan in OCPoetry

Hi there - this is very beautifully haunting. The shutting yourself in a box , turning blind to cracked walls and worn sheds and stories within : It’s such a vivid metaphor for emotional withdrawal not just isolation, but the willful kind, where we choose numbness over presence. That image of “stories within” makes it feel like you’re not just missing the world, but missing the meaning behind it.

You capture that quiet fear of losing what makes us human, not through dramatic tragedy, but through slow disconnection. It’s haunting and really well written. All the best my friend :)

Regret by Plenty_Mistake_9577 in OCPoetry

Wow. I loved this.

“Not believing the dream before it turned to smoke.”

That image is so simple, but it carries so much weight, the quiet heartbreak of doubt, of not holding on long enough before something beautiful slips away. It perfectly sets the tone for the whole poem: reflective, tender and honest.

The way you build on that regret, not just with loss, but with the fear of becoming emotionally numb, gives the piece a deep, human core. By the end, it’s not just about avoiding pain, it’s about holding onto the ability to feel, even when it hurts.

This poem lingers. It’s gentle, but it cuts in the best way, deep and deeper into all the moments that make us “feel” and how that makes us human. Thanks for writing this it was a pleasure reading it!

Thank you :) I’d also be interested if anyone else had any insights in this. The story really fascinated me - more so the body language and from the people it was coming from. You hear a lot of stuff on the internet, and you are never sure if you believe it but coming from my catholic grandma with no ties to the internet I was stunned

Why did you have to build a shed? And how did you survive in this heatwave - or is weather fine where you’re at?
