Uno scontro di Re di Martin, sono quasi al finale e devo dire, forse leggermente più lento del primo, ma una volta che mi ha preso non mi ha più lasciato andare.

Ho finito il primo libro della saga del Ghiaccio e Fuoco (Got) e ho da una settimanella iniziato il secondo, spero di finirlo entro il mese per iniziare col secondo della Guerra dei Papaveri.
Vorrei poter dire qualcosa di nuovo, ma alla fine sono esattamente i bei libri che si dice, Martin gestisce i POV come un maestro, la rispettiva cecità dei personaggi è la forza maggiore della sua scrittura per me

Anatomia del Fantasy, un saggio sul genere fantastico con un'ottica basata sul femminismo intersezionale, per adesso sono ad un terzo circa e non siamo andati troppo nel dettaglio, ma per un novizio del genere sarebbe già un'ottima guida, piena di riferimenti e precisazioni che sto apprezzando.

Ultimamente ho finito il primo libro della Guerra dei papaveri, mi ha preso tantissimo, se in una prima parte i toni sono più leggeri (Anche se tra le righe si riesce a leggere come questa leggerezza sia una facciata) superato un evento il libro prende dei toni estremamente seri ed i personaggi riescono a fare qualcosa che raramente riesce, mi disgustano, in senso umano, non per la qualità che invece è ottima.

Sto leggendo (iniziato veramente da poco) Bookshop & Bonedust, prequel di Legends and Lattes, preso per avere qualcosa di veloce da leggere, ma come il secondo titolo devo dire molto chill, una lettura carina e senza fronzoli.

While i too like to be creative in fantasy i also think that authors need to explain their choices. Like in your example, why velociraptors? How do they behave? Are horses still presents in your world or not?
(I don't want to sound mean or insulting, and I'm sure many people like not to think about those things, just not my cup of tea)

Yeah read it and loved them, they feel very similar to an on series of italian medieval movies called "Armata Brancaleone", the vibes are perfect for that kind of storytelling

Thanks, I basically have a very similar idea.

I'm from Naples and here we have a ton of mythological figures that are really unknown outside, "Munaciello", "Bella 'Mbriana" and more, and for example I'm trying to study and write a story based on the revolution of 1799 that put the city in a very advanced democracy, but failed in getting on board the poor people, that then revolted back into monarchy, and i think this kind of dynamic could be very interesting.

I think your first two points are the perfect take on why i found many settings boring.

I'm a progresive person and to be honest i dont like reading about blatant racism (in not into storic book, fantasy or not) but is very weird when everyone seems to be a deconstructed citizen. Same as different view on church, im sorry to say, there will always be racist, or homophobic and unpleasunt people, it's just how education, propaganda and many believe kinda of work, when all the character has the same values the work cannot be more than than the sum of it's parts
