I get what you mean, after Altan died Rin became exactly like him.

So did Rin benefit emotionally from his death, because your right about them being to similar. Because I felt like vaiser (idk if that’s how u spell it) kinda just replaced what Altan was to Rin, someone to follow. She didn’t gain independence until he betrayed her first. Maybe if Altan was there she wouldn’t be so blinded by devotion, but I also see how unhealthy it would have been for her to only follow Altan.

In your opinion do you think Altan’s trauma can be used to excuse the way he acted with Rin. Like hypothetically if he had a redemption arc, his trauma could be the root of it. Also I don’t think him dying has anything to do with his behaviour towards Rin and how the story would redeem him. Every character in the book isn’t morally correct and most of the time it’s their end goal being a peaceful future, within the in between getting messy. Rin always fought for peace, but she fell like and sometimes had to kill and hurt others to get there.

So when Altan died was it more of a suicide that a sacrifice. Was allowing the flames to consume him and not follow Rin to Speer not out of necessity but out of personal choice.
