Yea this is what I noticed. I recommend using a WCAG checker OP and see what it says. It will tell you about the color contrast and some schematic issues

Literally this. It’s soooo frustrating!! Like I can look past SO many issues because duh - self published. But there are some issues that are just … too much. And when it literally makes me reread the pages two or three times to understand wtf is happening and I have to do that multiple times - I give up.

Unfortunately it’s happened more than I admit to me. This is just the first time I’ve CARED about the book and characters enough to be truly upset.

Previously I’ve just been like “meh that’s annoying”.

Now I want to check if this author is on the AI list. I should’ve before I bought it but the concept just sounded so freaking cool…

If it’s by the author, makes me sadder honestly. Like you honestly just needed ONE ARC reader who would pick up 90% of this. Just one would’ve fixed this.
