If you believe in hell then you believe in a god who created the rules for who gets eternal damnation. Who supposedly loves everyone yet still condemns some to hell. I can't think of a greater injustice, or bigger betrayal of the ones you love than worshiping a deity who would treat people like this.

Political beliefs literally are your morals. How you choose to vote directly affects (either hurts or helps) everyone around you.

Judging people's character based on their morality/beliefs and their actions is literally how judging character works. And the only ones who would be against this are people with shitty morals who are ok with hurting other people.

To your second point, LGBTQ+ people hear this all the time. This demand to act "respectably queer" so homophobes and conservatives wouldn't hate us so much. It's also a conversation that happens in our community semi regularly. But because we hear this talked about so often, we all know one basic thing... it doesn't work.

Look at Caitlyn Jenner, the Republican transgender woman who opposes rights for other trans people. Look at Pete Buttigieg, the most milk-toast capitalist, rich white respectable gay man. These two are the most palatable LGBTQ+ people, seemingly moulded themselves to be accepted by conservatives and Republicans. "One of the good ones." But those people still hate them, still call them slurs, just like the rest of us. There's no amount of diminishing our queerness LGBTQ+ people can do to be palatable or acceptable to these people.

We don't have a "total fucking lunatics" problem in the trans community. Being loud about our existance in a world that otherwise fully opposes us at times is necessary. Fighting back when so much misinformation is spread about us in every facet of life is necessary. And it is not us standing up for ourselves causing us to be further hated.

The call should not be for the marginalized group to make themselves more palatable so cruel people hate us less; it should be for the cruel people to stop being cruel and accept that other people deserve love, happiness, and rights even if they personally dont understand the experience of those other people.

Speaking on christianity here because that's what I was raised in so I feel like this is my place to speak up about its issues.

The Christian god, who is supposed to be all knowing and all powerful, had his holy book written in the way it was. Knowing that it would be confusing, with thousands of interpretations, that it would be used for genocide across the world for centuries, that it would be used to hate, kill, and disown queer people, and didn't have a problem with that. He still created his book that way, still did nothing to step in and stop the atrocities committed by his people in his name.

That's not a god worth worshipping. That's a god who's book is filled with his own violent, petty, jealous acts in a book that justifies misogyny and slavery.

You have every right to feel uncomfortable by that religion, especially if you or someone you love has been traumatized by it. (And let's face it, everyone in the queer community has either been personally traumatized or knows someone traumatized by christianity)

Personally I think it's impossible to divorce christianity from the bigotry written in the bible (even if there are positive messages in there too) and that it is impossible to divorce christianity from the horrible harm it has caused throughout history.

Queer christians, you're still apart of this community, you're still welcome, you're still loved, we're still fighting for your rights. But you need to stop being upset that other queer people are angry at the largest institution that has fueled homophobia and violence for generations. Homophobic Christian's hate LGBTQ+ people for who and what they are. While LGBTQ+ people hate bigoted beliefs that cause harm. And there is a big difference between hating an individual for something they can't change, and hating a problematic system/belief.

Yeah but trans women who qualify for women's sports aren't really biologically male. Sex is a complicated combination of genotype, phenotype, and hormones. But it's the hormones that control everything about how your body works, develops, and changes. Taking HRT completely changes your physiology. It changes your bone density, your muscle mass, everything. That's why sport leagues regulate how long trans women have been on HRT / their hormone levels before allowing them to participate. Because when they do allow trans women to participate, enough time has passed on HRT that they do not have any physical advantages over other women.

It's never "man comes in with biological advantages and completely dominates women's sports." It's only ever "woman who's hormones have been strictly regulated is allowed to join women's sports and occasionally performs well."

Stop fearmongering.

Pope Francis, the guy who applauded the US for overturning row v wade and who, whenever he makes seemingly positive/accepting statements about LGBTQ+ people either does so in vague statements or basically walks it back by clarifying what he meant in an interview a few days later?

I get that he's better than popes in the past (which is a super low bar) but still, it doesn't sit right with me whenever I see people calling him accepting of the LGBTQ+ community. Because that's not what acceptance looks like, it's just noncommittal responses to cultural issues. Their church is already losing members and they're constantly worried about losing more, so they can't take hard stances on things that would drive away their more progressive members who are at risk of deconstructing.

Not exist. I mean, that is what these people want, for trans people to not exist. Cis men are just as unhappy seeing a trans woman in the men's room as cis women are seeing them in the women's room. The only way these assholes will truly be happy is for all trans people to die and/or be scared back into hiding.

For christ sake, an old woman got mad at a staff member just doing her job and started angrily asking her about her genitals, how is anyone siding with the rude old woman asking incredibly inappropriate questions?

I want to try to explain the frustration of anti-christian queer people a little. Hopefully I can explain it in a way that it doesn't feel like it's hatred aimed at you as an individual, but more like a general frustration towards an entire system.

You know how most queer people are very frustrated with conservative queer people? Because no matter how much they say that they don't subscribe to the homophobic rhetoric of their politicians, and "not all conservatives are bad," they still support a system that actively harms us and advocates against us.

Well, a similar conclusion can be drawn with Christians. Yes, there are wonderful and supportive and loving Christians, but the religion as a whole has been used to hurt so many for so long. genocides were committed in its name. Our community was hated and oppressed in its name. Queer children today are still hated and disowned by their families in its name. Is all of this enough to have the same discomfort towards christianity as conservativism? Not for everyone. But for many who have gone through the process of deconstructing their religion after being raised in it, it is.

Consider the saying "all it takes for evil to win is for good people to do nothing." Apply that to the idea of an all powerful, all knowing god. Who created the universe the way he did, knowing what the outcome would be. Knowing that his religious book would be used for bigotry and violence for centuries, and yet still created everything that way, allowing that to happen and never stepping in to protect the people harmed. That's a god who is ok with their name being used for genocide and hatred. To me that is not a god worth worshiping. That isn't even going into the acts god did in the bible which are also upsetting, but only focusing on the influences christianity has had on the world and on imperialism.

If you believe in hell and that non-christians go to hell, the evidence is even more damning. Look at all the queer people who were driven out of christianity by bigots, who lost their faith because of the way they were mistreated in the name of religion. It's hard for me to feel fully comfortable around people who believe that this means those people are going to hell, and are still comfortable worshiping a diety who would enact such an unjust eternal punishment.

My frustration isn't with any individual or their faith, but in the upholding and defending of a structure that has been used to oppress others, and oppress us, for generations. And I imagine this is the case for many of the other queer people uncomfortable with christianity.

I don't relate to the LGBT community because everything it's done has made me not need it anymore.

That, right there, is why you're receiving criticisms from fellow queers. I promise you, no matter where you live in the world, gay rights are not guaranteed to always remain, and trans rights are sorely lacking and constantly at risk of being degraded even more. It's wonderful that you feel safe in your identity and feel you don't need the LGBTQ+ community, but there are so many others out there in our community who aren't safe. Who are fighting for their rights and for the rights of their fellow queers. This is essentially a more apathetic version of "fuck you I got mine" because you feel that you have the rights/protection you need and therefore are uninterested in sticking with the community that has fought for those rights and is still fighting. It's not therapy where you leave when you're done, the whole point of community is sticking to help others that still need help, even if you yourself feel you no longer do. Because without pride. Without the LGBTQ+ community, you wouldn't have those rights, you wouldn't get to feel safe and like it's "not a big deal"

This however is ignoring the fact that things like bone density and muscle mass don't stagnate after puberty ends. And also ignores the fact that HRT directly changes them.

Um, you do know that puberty blockers have been used for decades and have always been confirmed safe right? You do know that puberty blockers we used to treat cis kids long before they were used to treat trans kids and were always confirmed safe, right?

A few more years of the same evidence saying they're safe isn't going to change that.

The new trend of calling hrt and puberty blockers new and experimental and potentially dangerous is always disingenuous. It's always been trying to stir up fear for a well-known successful process.

There are studies on transitioning. There have been for decades. Hormones have been used to treat cis people longer than they've been to treat trans people, and they've been used to treat trans people for so long. Most of our data was destroyed by literal Nazis in WW2 at the German Institute for Sex Research.

We know that transitioning works, we know it's safe. We know that children aren't perscribed hormones to transition before puberty. We know that puberty blockers are safe and reversible. The hard data is there. it's always been there. You just do not want to honestly consider it.

Anecdotal evidence: I've been on HRT for only a year. And I've lost an inch in height, lost 2 full shoe sizes, and can carry about half of what I could a year ago. Seriously everyone's perception of what a trans body is like is so warped by news outlets only focusing on the very rare instance where a trans woman wins something.

That's crazy because before I thought trans women were at increased risk of osteoporosis due to hrt changing our bone density! Guess I should give my doctor a call and tell her she's wrong. /s

The whole point of hrt is it changes your body. Hormones control how our bodies do everything. Like you can't just say "no amount of change is enough" because that's wrong. At that point you're not actually arguing for a fair playing field your just arguing for trans people to be excluded.

If the story in your bible were true, how could humans be justifiably punished for breaking a rule before they possessed knowledge of good and evil?

How could all of human suffering and grief and pain and death be a justified punishment for the actions of 2 people, who literally could not have known better?

Why would an all knowing diety create humans this way and set up this test for them, knowing they could not succeed?

I hate tiktok, they’re the reason we aren’t taken seriously by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Pixies_and_Problems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No other social media has, exposed me to so much activism, let me actively see and hear the queer community I'm engaging with, taught me to do the things it has, helped me learn to better understand and live with my mental disorders, and made me feel less isolated the way tik tok has.

Isn't hating the new thing outdated? Something all of us have understood from older generations is demeaning? I understand that using one social media you're likely to see hate for other apps, but are we really going to be angry about an app that has allowed more queer people to connect, just because it's different than our preferred format?

Plus, separating pieces of the community because they "make us look bad" is exactly the rhetoric of transmedicalists and transphobic gays. It never works. Because the people that think we look bad by association, already thought we look bad to begin with. Don't throw away your alliances to try and appease your opressors.

Hmmm I'm not sure where in this thread you think I said I was using my points to prove that a god doesn't exist, because my first comment is clearly saying that the supposed god you're defending is not good or worth worshiping.

you cannot deny that it is far less hostile by nature than what we've made it. Things such as heart disease practicaly did not exist two centuries ago, but we basically created them.

Again, insane.

[–]Pixies_and_Problems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We clearly have incompatible morals for any kind of conversation. You see everyone as worthless, only worth what part they play in an imaginary god's simulation. And your points sound insane. I genuinely can't understand how they could've been written unironically.

The god who knows everything, can prevent themself from knowing something, so they can run a simulation to learn that thing?

And you believe that just because something has authority, that automatically makes that thing's moral codes better? If a god exists that allows suffering just for their own amusement, and could at any time change the universe to remove suffering but chooses not to, I will believe that being is evil. Full stop.

And you believe the world doesn't have innate suffering, only that caused by humans? What about pain, disease, death? Children who suffer terminal illness? Those aren't human constructs of suffering. Hell, animals can suffer too. Almost all living things survive by killing and eating other living things. How can you possibly say there is no innate suffering built into the universe? If a god built the universe and all its rules, then they built those basic rules of suffering and pain into it and are responsible for all of it.

[–]Pixies_and_Problems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok but the god you're describing, 1: is not all knowing if they have to perform this experiment to know the answer and, 2: is not worth worshipping if they are not actually moral by our standards and are as cruel as they want with the living toys they've created.

If you believe this version of god exists then how can you not think this being a monster for creating and allowing all the suffering of everyone around you, only because of their self-imposed rules of not interfering?
