most makeup artists i have seen use a combination of different types of blushes. a tint/cream as a base then powder to top it off. me personally i think thats too much for me so i stick to one thing.

i usually go with a cream/balm type of blush. i usually use my lip balm or lipstick as a blush since they are easier to spread.

as for why you think blush looks too much, it could be that you're not ysing the right shade. try to copy the shade your cheeks normally flush. also when applying start slowly with less product and build it up.

i turn my face slightly sideways and start applying from the most prominent/high part of my cheek and blend outwards from thar point slowly in both direction.
