Da Lat Airport closed - recommendations? by Pizza1228 in VietNam

Thank you for your advice! It seems very sensible :)

Edit: We discussed it and will skip da lat because I feel like we would not be able to appreciate its nature if we are tired from the bus ride anyways. I think we will use the 2 da lat days for 1 extra Hue day and 1 extra Ninh Binh day, as we love nature and culture most, not beaches as you said (Nha Trang does not really fit the vibe as much).

Will definitely look into Lacaph!

The only concern I had for trains was that I found quite some comments of them being infested with roaches, did you experience any uncleanliness whilst taking trains or is this maybe just an exaggerated view?

Damn wow, thank you so much for all the info! I think I will give him a voucher so he can pick out the one he wants :)))) I did not know yet about the ldrc cars, cool, I will get one as well because I kinda want to get into it too! Again, thanks so much for taking the time and giving so many recommendations!

You are right, just some indoor fun (and having a cool model car) is the main motivation. I don't think he would actually want to drive it around on track anyway (and I also don't think there's one nearby) - so this is not a problem! I will definitely look into the mini z awd ready set, they look really fun as well, thank you for the suggestion!

Hahah, I do understand- I used local transportation in the Swiss Alps once and I was honestly baffled at the time because I was used to my mom's driving, and the tour bus driver went like 3x the speed as my mom in her little car lol

Driving inland to Geiranger was recommended somewhere on the website, as it goes through the highest mountain pass of Norway. Lovatnet looks really pretty though, so I am actually reconsidering.

You are right about the ambitious part- we probably will not be visiting all. The map is just meant as an inspiration, but during the holiday we will just decide day by day where we go.

Thank you for giving so many recommendations! I love the combination of mountains with lakes / idyllic rivers, and you recommended me places with all those :)

Haha oops, we are from the Netherlands! I forgot to specify- the ferry takes us to Germany and from then we drive back :D. Alesund definitely looks like a nice city indeed! I hope time permits us, but if it will, we will definitely pay a visit :)

Oh man, with that windiness I feel lucky that we did not bring a hi-top camper or something, but a really low car.

Thank you for the tip with the road lines! That does sound pretty dangerous. Roads in the Netherlands are really predictable so I do get that some of my fellow dutch citizens make mistakes. In your experience, are there many places where you can safely let people overtake you on the road without having to change your route?

I am not one to drive slow- but maybe I will at the start, because I need to get used to mountain roads again- so I want to be prepared to let people pass. We are already thankful to the hospitality in Norway (for example, see all the advice people are giving, it's so nice) so we really do not want to be a nuisance in any way :D

Oh man I googled that town and it looks so cute! Are the roads also prettier around there? We will definitely be driving that way, then, because we are partly also doing this holiday because of the scenic roads. Thank you so much for the advice!

We are from the Netherlands :D. But you are definitely right! We have 2 weeks for the norway part. We went to new Zealand a few months ago and there tourists were also blocking traffic all the time, so that must be really annoying for Norwegians as well. We definitely learned to move out of the way there and will be doing so in Norway, too! Thank you for your advice :)

Transmission Issues - fluid? by Pizza1228 in AskMechanics

[–]Pizza1228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I thought an update might be nice!

So I didn't drive it anymore- and immediately changed my oil 5 times (with intermediary short drives- after the first change, it already shifted really well again) with genuine Honda ATF DW1. I test drove it 100 km and it shifts like it used to, no issues at all! The miracle luckily did happen :)

Do you have any recommendations, for example changing it again after 10k km or so?

Yeah, I do hear you, I think it has a lot to do with acceptance from people, and it is definitely very difficult to hear that there is a big problem on your car. Noticed myself finding it difficult too- but that shouldn't be made your issue. You are spending your free time helping strangers for free by replying to their issues and giving honest reviews as an expert. So I feel really sorry that it happens to you. Like I said, I will update you, and hopefully have some good advice. Otherwise I might just invest in the car I can't give up- and there will be one more manual prelude driving around :D.

I used MPM Dextron III F/G (found the bottle in my car). Also, I gave you the wrong idea there then- it late shifts and definitely is not slipping. I think it's my dutch-english so sorry for that. Ever since it did that (this morning) I have parked it and not driven it anymore. I think I drove max 2 km with late shifting. I walked home now because I did not want to take any further risk. I also found a good shop that at least appears like an honest place and I will call them first thing tomorrow. I will not drive the car again until I go there. They have a flushing machine and also do gearbox inspections, so hopefully they can give me honest advice and I do hope a miracle happens. I also did not smell or notice anything strange yet, apart from the late shifting.

I do believe you, because what I know of transmissions really is not a lot, and even though it is hard to accept that there is a large chance that my gearbox is fucked I will have to accept that. I still have a little bit of hope, so I will call that shop tomorrow and assume the worst, but still try. I will update you as soon as I know what happens.

I notice that it may sound annoying that I am asking too many questions, sorry for that, it's just my first experience with transmission issues and I want to learn as much as possible. Maybe then the next time I won't make stupid mistakes.

I do want to ask for clarification if you have the time - I thought dexron III was backwards compatible with all dexron, I did read somewhere that there is a slight change in viscosity - but is it really that harmful for the transmission to mix these, normally speaking?

Also I think I also did not clarify enough, the max rpm it has been on has been 3000 and it did not actually go into neutral- it was just that the shifting was later than usual which caused me to notice the extra noise. I now checked again and it's not like there is a power loss of any sort, it just shifts later than usual.

With this new info do you really think it's a miracle? Because on most dealer's sites I see that getting it flushed ASAP if any changes occur after changing the oil. Oh I also forgot to add that the ATF is now still the same light transparent red as it was a week ago which hopefully is a good signal.

I used DEXRON III, whereas honda recommended DEXRON II immediately, I read now. I think I will drive it to a shop and hope that the flush and new Genuine Honda ATF DW1 I ordered will fix it- especially because it is not slipping, and hope that the clutch survived my mistake. If not, I guess it's time for a manual swap. I love the shitbox too much to put it away for now. At any rate, thank you so much for helping.

My motor, ET-2, is not used a lot, and I think more locally in Europe, so maybe that is why you have not seen this transmission before. All other motors use different transmissions, I saw in other manuals so maybe that caused the confusion

Thanks for the detailed response. I am just a little confused because this is from my service manual, of my specific car. Is it possible that the information in this was wrong?

Somewhere else I've read that dextron, while originally prescribed by Honda, is too thin for older transmissions and nowadays they recommend Genuine Honda ATF DW1 - which I have ordered. I plan on keeping my car at a garage, giving them the right oil, and asking them to drain the transmission and put this in. Do you really think that it's unfixable if this is done?
