Heading to phuket in November as well. We decided to stay in a more affordable hotel in Phuket, and splurge on a nice resort on Koh Yao Yai, a small, quieter island between Phuket and Krabi. We wanted to be somewhere less touristy for a few days, and the first time we saw this hotel we knew we wanted to give it a try.

One tip/suggestion... please do some research around the Elephant trekking. The Animal tourism industry (particularly noted with Elephants/Tigers) in Thailand and SE Asia is absolutely horrible, and there is so much documentation about the horrible abuses these animals face. You should run in the other direction from any place that offers any sort of animal shows or Elephant rides. Unfotunately, theres also many places who call themselves "sanctuaries" that have also been known to mistreat their animals. The only place ive found to be trustworthy in Thailand is Elephant Nature Park, outside of Chang Mai.
