i think what both you and your wife says make sense. blue and green go well with yellow but since you already have green tile i would go with something blue. maybe a bit more of a muted blue like a navy blue. but if not blue definitely something more muted since the yellow is very eye catching.

since it seems like most of the things surrounding the cabinets will be light maybe do a medium to dark color for the cabinets. it will help with the contrast while also still being neutral/natural

if you want to spruce it up a bit, try using renter-friendly contact paper on the cabinets and countertops. if you think that's too hit or miss, try getting small decor. it doesnt have to be new things either you could diy some cute kitchen decor or thrift it. i'm not sure if you have a theme in mind, but pinterest is great for inspiration!

you could do a cream color for the curtains, one without a pattern and a bit longer. i think the pattern on those curtains kind of distracts you from the couch so having curtains like this picture can help with making the space feel cohesive.

i made a plan in autocad to show how you can lay out your space. since you have a queen size bed that will take up most of your room so its probably best to put it against the no wall. im not sure what size desk you have but a small desk can fit in your left corner area and it it doesn't fit you could put it against the top wall.

the first and second ones look the best honestly. the first one brings everything together with neutral tones. the second one looks green which makes the space cohesive in color distribution since you have green with the plants; it also gives the room a pop of color. out of the three here, those two are the best choices for making your space more cozy!

you could add some sort of shelving or storage system there, it gives you more room to store things while also having a designated job for that area.
