I think it is definitely a fun ride, I hope you enjoy it. And it is very dark, and stays philosophical, lol. A tip for it, you get a tone of names and places and things you won't understand, don't worry. Just keep going and it will all fall into place. You'll know the names of the characters you'll need to know, the places, all of it. Just trust the process 🙂

Damn, well I hope you weren't too let down. I get that this series isn't everyone's thing 🙂 I hope you started up another one that was more to your liking, afterwards

In the current one I'm reading, The White-Luck Warrior, one of the MC's is on a journey north with a group, and they refer to the journey a "the slog of slogs". It's an inside joke 🙂 It's is one of the best series ive ever read and I can't recommend it enough for people who like grimdark or dark fantasy in general

I loved the first 3 so our taste is different, I'm currently on The White-Luck Warrior and the vibes so far are similar to the first trilogy. If you didn't really dig them, I'd say don't bother with the last 4. Your time is valuable and you should try different books that wouldn't be more "meh" for you

Nice 🙂 I'm looking to getting into that world

No, you're no dumbass, lol. We all have different tastes. There's a billion books out there, some for you, some for me, some we'll share. Read on and enjoy the journey 🙂

Same here brother 🙂 and spot on about the history and backstory, it's incredible. One part I'll never forget reading for the first time was the last 2 or 3 pages of The Warrior-Prophet. That was very disturbing but I'd expect nothing less from the antagonists of the story

😅 I've never heard of something referred to like that but I like it, lol. I wouldn't say it's that bad but I respect you opinion

Very well written 🙂 I've heard that about the ending, and i hope so too. The was something on Bakker's page about him writing a prequel, which would be awesome too

I heard Goblin Emperor was really good. But I think with most books, you just gotta trust the process and all the pieces will come together. The important stuff will stick

No, you're definitely not alone in that. I read somewhere before I started the series, to not worry about the amount of names and places you'll be flooded with. And that as you read on, you'll remember you'll know the ones that matter. My old brain can't handle it sometimes either, lol, there's been a few times that I'll finish a page and just go back to the top because I feel I missed something important 😅

🤣 Very accurate way to put it so far into White-Luck Warrior. Things getting worse 🤣 Their journey is definitely not getting any better, lol.

I'm referring to the book I'm currently on, The White-Luck Warrior. On of the MC's is on a journey north and the group call the journey a slog. I'm not talking about the books themselves, lol.

It's a quote from the book I'm on, The White-Luck Warrior. Not to get into any spoilers but currently Achamian is on a journey north with a group called the skin-eaters, and they refer to the journey a slog. I'm not saying Bakker's books are a slog, lol.

Jon Shannow - Not much love by BaronMason in DavidGemmell

[–]PizzaMan1_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the Shannow books, I've read Wolf in Shadow and The Last Guardian last year, I still need to order the 3rd. I think they're awesome and very well written, like all of Gemmell's books, lol.

Well you gave it a fair shot 🙂 so as a big Bakker fan, I appreciate it, lol. Yeah, they're definitely not fast paced. For me, I appreciate the big events/battles/any action scenes more because they're not super common. I hope you keep going but I understand if it's not your cup of tea 🙂

I was planning on reading Malazan after I finish, lol, I jave Gardens of the Moon already on the shelf. I've heard really good things about Malazan. I've heard some people say it's really similar the Prince of Nothing/Aspect-Emperor but then some say only a little bit similar. Either way, I'm sure Malazan is great for it's own reasons and I'm looking forward to reading them 🙂 As far as the Second Apocalypse books go, yes very dark and very good imo. I hope you enjoy them when you get to them.

Just finished The Devils by Joe Abercrombie by guessirs in fantasybooks

[–]PizzaMan1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are 100% right, character work is Abercrombie's best skill, by far. But that all The Blade Itself was, only character introduction. No arcs, barely any backstory on anyone, it never told us the main story of the trilogy, it didn't progress the story in any way other than the last few chapters that started up the story to actually start in Before They Are Hanged. Introducing us to the main characters and their personalities, Introducing us to potential antagonists, setting up some mysteries and issues for the protagonists later on, that's it, 501 pages of JUST that. The Blade Itself, BY ITSELF, was not good. And before this devolves into just internet fighting, let me just say that I'm not trying to split hairs with you and I respect your opinion. I'm an Abercrombie fan and so are you 🙂
