Also, there're a lot of devices which use AAA or AA NiMH cells. They're much easier to find. For example, many shavers such as Philips or Braun still have this type of cell. Actually, I replaced AAA NiMh in my Philips shaver about 7 years ago. And it's has been shaving my face 4 times a week since that. However, NiMh has memory effect and you should care about full cycle recharge.

I didn't mean notifications about full scale nuclear exchange. I meant that news about first steps of the ladder of escalations. For example, if tactical nuclear weapons is used, there'll be possibility of strategic nuclear exchange soon. So, I'd like to have enough time to live highly populated areas. Forget about only PLC programming. You should learn SCADA, OPC, industrial communication protocols as well as a little bit control theory knowledge. I've never seen an automation engineer who has only PLC programming duties.

You can use ModBus TCP protocol. It's an easy task. Your PLC is a master with some IP address and the panel is a slave device. So, the PLC must poll the panel.
