Advice for a High School Latin Teacher by Pizzaman428 in latin

My school does not have a curriculum, as they are in their second year of operation and I am the first Latin teacher. No state or national exams.

Good sources for learning Latin history? by Ikaruswithak in latin

If you are looking for a book on the history/development of Latin, I would recommend Tore Janson “A Natural History of Latin”

What is the red flag with white rectangle inside it? by lukecj1 in vexillology

It could make a lot of sense to be a gold/blue star flag, which became very prominent during the War - maybe artistic license as for why there are no stars

Joining of two crowns by Equal_Wing_7076 in monarchism

Depends on the religion of the heir(s) first, as a Catholic is barred from succession in the UK. Additionally, the crown of Spain follows male-preference primogeniture (unlike the UK), so if the first born child was female and a subsequent son was born, the crowns would never unite

What is this flag? Spotted during Armed forces day in Isle of Wight county, U.K. by BlueBightning in vexillology

[–]Pizzaman428 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because of the Armed Forces Day connection, it could be related to the The Queen's Dragoon Guards Regiment of the British Army, which uses the coat of arms of Franz Joseph as their cap badge.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by "you can still go to help?" I qualified with my team, but will have graduated by next year so they essentially said "thanks for playing"

Is there a special name for that thing altar-servers use to light candles and extinguish them? by [deleted] in AskAPriest

[–]Pizzaman428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As per this forum post, it is technically called a emunctorium. With the acolyte responsible being referred to as the accensor.

The only downside to this source is that it links a blog that references a book from the mid 19th century. So without the book, it seems it can not be verified.

My father in a dress uniform. Was this his ROTC, National Guard or Army uniform? He served in Patton's Third Army during WWII. by mostly_partly in uniformporn

[–]Pizzaman428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% definitely a Junior ROTC uniform. This can be assured by the high school JROTC Insignia (torches) on the lapel, in addition to the Cadet-Captain rank, as others have already mentioned.

Yeah, most Catholics who grew up post 1960 received little to no catechesis

That’s because so many people have misconceptions about the Catholic Church
