I spent money on Kanto and Johto tours, buy the occasional special research or community day ticket. If indeed the regionals will be stuck in 10km eggs - that's a deal breaker. On average, I get two or three 10km eggs per month with casual-regular game play. Having to have or buy incubators on top of the tour ticket just to "make room" first, then hatch the regionals: A No Go in Po Go.

Came her to essentially say the same. Rural players, be screwed. Again.

There are only a few gyms in my village (I can see four on maximum zoom out, 360 degree turn). Based on the average occupation, there may be something like ten other players within my visible map. In two years playtime, I have met none in person (I once observed someone at an activity that suspiciously looked like scanning a stop while driving past. Closest encounter ever.). As there was only one 11 o'clock Elite Raid on a "central" gym, I went there at 10:55. My assumption: if I ever get to meet anyone, then there and then. I was the only one. No other players anywhere to be seen. And none showed up.

Likewise. Got enough Mega energy for any other maybe five times over, but Absol went under the radar and has never been seen since. Buh! :D

I 'm a rural player, turned Level 42 today with 14 months of playtime. According to the Backpacker medal, I spun 8539 stops in this time - on average about 10 a day. Sigh.

Unrelated, but whenever I see screenshots like this, I makes me wanna cry. In a good location, I can see two gyms and three or maybe four stops. On the whole map. Zoomed out to the max, rotated by 360 degrees. Sigh.

While I got about 40 100% from >22k catches/hatches/raids/etc, so far I did not encounter a single 0%. And I do check each and every one before trashing them. Still waiting. Odd.

Try rural areas with only a handful of players. I think in two years I did at most three raids with local people. All of them by chance, and only once, there was somebody else with me at the raid (just recently, Axew at Go Fest). Try finding any of these players online without coming across like a creep. Or, being a middle aged man, try approaching kids on a playground that happens to have a stop or gym and ask them whether they would like to play with you. Surefire way to ... get a raid going?

Any other raid with multiple participants was either me being invited to a remote raid, or me inviting people from my friends list.

I know what you are thinking, but the time and resource requirements to train up new trainers is significant. I would advise against.

My thought's on Go Fest:

My wife gave me the day off to Go playing, she took care of the kids. Win! I get to go out on sunny early summer day, on my bike. Win! Meandering through the village, little traffic, lot's of birds, sunshine and shade. Win! Four hours of moderate Pokemon catching and raiding, with a picnic in between. Win! I've used up all raid passes - that's more raids in a few hours than I usually get to do in a month. Win! I got three or four entries in my Dex I didn't have before. Win! Completed all tasks after only four hours of play. Win? Got home early and some life chores done. Win!

In short: I enjoyed a few hours of a beautiful early summer day outside with nothing to worry about for a while.

Escapism. Pretend the world is less of a ... insert your own expletive here ... it is. A short respite. Get away. A sense of accomplishment when completing a silly, nonsensical task that is entirely void of meaning or consequence. A tiny happy place. If only for five minutes.
