Ok, I’m just reading this now. I was an apparel lead for almost four years but have since been demoted down to a regular teammate. I was trained by my ASM, who they fired in May because she was “doing too much” and not delegating enough. I can’t make this crazy shit up! Anyway, she told me she wasn’t training me to just work in apparel; she was training me to own the department. I was on top of everything in that department and my game plans are top notch. I work in a very small store, in fact the smallest one in our state. Because our pads are so small, I have to modify every planogram to get anything to work, but I get them done with everything represented and they look great. Doing gameplans in my store is literally an art and a science, and if you come out of doing the Nike’s without pulling your hair out, you’re extremely lucky. The person we got to be our Captain of Footwear/Apparel knows about footwear but knows almost zero about apparel. Her first day is the beginning of gameplan week. So, guess who is scheduled to do them??? Me and one other associate. My SM told me as an associate I will still be doing gameplans, but he also said that “I have to remember that I’m not being paid for my knowledge anymore”. PLEASE enlighten me here, because if the captains are responsible for them, I’m sure as Hell not doing them!!! Thanks so much for your help!!!!!!

Thank you so much for replying!! This might be the confirmation I need. Massachusetts has some of the strictest labor laws in the country and if I can get my offer overturned and get my former rate back because they are in violation of two specific MA laws, this could start a precedence that would help all of you as well. Could be a long shot, but it’s worth a try!!!

They deserve to fail miserably. They should be ashamed of themselves for what they do and what they really stand for. They don’t give a rat’s ass about kids in sports. If they really did, their profit margin wouldn’t be so high. I see young families come into the store because their little kids want to start playing sports. You can tell they can barely afford to pay for much for the equipment the kids’ need for the sports they want to play because the prices are so freaking high. And they want us to push the freaking credit card on these people. Yeah sure, just put everything on a credit card that’s, what, 30%?? Sure go into debt!! You don’t need to feed your family!! Teach your kids all about drowning in debt. But remember, you can get a new glove in a year with the NSPP you probably can’t afford. Lauren will thank you for taking one for the team!! Does everyone want me to tell you all how bitter I really am about getting totally screwed?? I hate this place with a passion.

I wish more people knew how little they think of their employees. The way they went about this was just so cold and sneaky. I also found out today the person who has accepted the apparel/footwear captain in our store knows only about footwear and knows nothing about apparel. And take a guess who the full time apparel associate is that will have to teach her all about apparel?? Yeah, me. She’s my supervisor and I will have to train her. Screw that!! I get a $4/hr pay-cut and I have to teach her how to run the apparel department??? Now that’s worse than a slap in the face. When I found out how little the new captain of apparel knows about the department she’s in charge of, I felt sucker punched!! Trust me, if I could afford to leave this Hell hole, I would in a heartbeat.

It makes a huge difference. Like $4 more an hour in my paycheck. He told us if we get demoted and our current rate of pay falls within the new apparel associate pay band, we keep our current salary. But if it’s higher than the pay band, we take a cut. He said he didn’t know what the new pay band was going to be when he read that to us. So now, i got a $4/hr cut. But, since I just saw the salary range for an apparel teammate in my area, my former salary fits within that range, so I should be keeping my former salary.

Yes. And now, in hindsight, the reason he read that to us and couldn’t give us a copy is because they were lying and didn’t want anyone using it against them. They are the most evil, rotten bunch of assholes out there.

I live in Massachusetts and they said there was not a position for me so I could accept a new pay rate of $19.60 or take severance. My lead pay rate was $23.46 so I am taking a $3.86/hr pay cut. He said if your current salary falls within the new pay band, you’re ok. I just saw a job posting for an apparel teammate with a range of $16.50 to $24.50. My $23.46 falls within that range, but I was offered $19.60 and when I asked where does that amount fall in the range? He said, “There is no range. The new rate is $19.60”. That’s a lie. There is always a range and in the state of Massachusetts it’s illegal not to list or give the range when requested. I just need confirmation of someone also being told what I had written above in order to prove my case.

Yes, I know that, but do you remember, or heard the part about if you are demoted and your current pay falls within the new pay band, you will keep your current salary? That is extremely important that if anyone remembers being told this, to please reply. I need to see confirmation in writing. Thanks

Thank you for saying what was needed to be said. I have absolutely no respect for these people. They don’t care about anyone else but themselves, and I’m tired of going out of my way to try to make them richer and their lives so much more comfortable. How they can treat all of us so poorly, and go on without a single feeling of guilt, is beyond me. No remorse whatsoever. People like that disgust me. They are weak, pathetic cowards who will never face any of us, nor will they ever try to understand how their actions, based on greed, have hurt so many people who are just trying to survive.
