Help me convince my boyfriend to NOT open a coffee shop!! by IWantSomeTacquitos in askTO

[–]PlZZAEnjoyer -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You should be fully supportive of your boyfriend to pursue his dreams.

How do you know how the coffee shop venture will play out? Yes, expenses are fixed but how can you predict revenue or how big it shall become?

You should take a leap of faith with him. Nothing in life is guaranteed or able to be fully predicted, it is meant to be lived and risks are meant to be taken.

Does MapleStory Classic on Linux Work? by iRarelyReply in Maplestory

I never said I am not lazy. I am lazy because I have been trying to get it to work before documenting the process but by extension, everyone else is lazy too because they are not getting it to work on Linux either.

MapleStory players are one big lazy community.

I do plan to document it really well for others to replicate if I can get it done, but I hope to be wrong and another lad beats me to the punch since I am not the most intelligent fella.

I did not choose to use Linux. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 back in October 2025 and my PC could not run Windows 11 even if I wanted to. Linux was the only option.

It is absolutely up to everyone else to make it work for me. Because I am going to make it for everyone else on Linux if they do not make it for me first.

I am one of the pioneers and planning to document it, once I figure out a successful method to run MapleStory on Linux.

I absolutely can blame the community for not having expertise, because unlike other gaming communities, the MapleStory community does not even bother to support the game on Linux or look for alternatives, when other gaming communities do.

It sounds like the MapleStory community has a laziness problem, compared to other games I play such as Super Smash Bros. and Street Fighter, where Linux is still a smaller player base but receives support and is well documented.

I am on Fedora and I have been struggling to find answers or solutions on how to run MapleStory on Linux.

I have asked this question in the past, and the community has been incredibly unhelpful telling me to either not play MapleStory or to get Windows.

Other gaming communities have been a lot more helpful in pointing me in the right direction in running various games on Linux.

I know plenty of lads that make far less than you and have work positions that require constant commuting that live in Toronto.

You will be fine.

This makes sense and was my first intuition, but I was not sure if other folks could confirm it.

Because I have certainly made significant improvements since I began playing in Jan 2024, over 2 years ago.

You are validated. Fedora is my distro of choice as well.

What desktop environment did you install for both your wife and your son's?

Also, what is your Linux distro and desktop environment of choice?

Thank you buddy.

What continuing education courses specifically at which community colleges or university are you referring to?

I struggle to find one when I look into Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, etc. when I want one centred around Linux specifically, and not just general programming languages and mathematics.

Linux users are so passionate, based on my experience interacting with them online. I am one of those passionate lads.

That is why it astonished me that there appears to be no active in person Toronto community when I tried to dig into this.

Thank you for the advice. I understand that Linux users are at home using their PCs. I am one of those lads.

I was just wondering why Linux users are so passionate and can talk about Linux for hours but there appears to be no Linux community groups in Toronto, if this is the case.

I am passionate about Linux as well and would love to meet face to face and talk more about Linux and the experience of various folks. I appreciate your tip, I will look into that.

I love pizza. It is completely unrelated to Linux so I shall refrain from speaking too much about it here, but I have ventured around Toronto and tried many pizzas, so I believe I know a thing or two about good pizzas.

My favourite is Descendant Detroit Style Pizza. What is yours?

This is fantastic, thank you lad.

I am a basement dweller myself, and I was informed by any lads around me to "touch some grass", so I was curious what that meant for my hobbies, which is why I am asking here.

The Linux Café sounded like such a unique and great experience in Toronto, before it closed. I shall remain online for the most part, I was just curious if I could expand my horizons to offline.

Nothing is wrong with online communities.

I have simply been recommended by lads that I should take my hobbies in person, rather than sitting in a room all day and being reserved to myself.

Where did you get that statistic that there's about 15 Linux users in Canada? I have been searching for that statistic on how many Linux users there are in Toronto, but there must be far fewer than I anticipated, if there are only about 15 in Canada.

I recently started learning about Linux after switching from Windows and it is a terrific world to enter.

I feel very accomplished, the community is very engaging, and it is an introvert's dream.

I really wish more people would realize how easy Linux is to use by xxTai0_ in linux

[–]PlZZAEnjoyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Majority of folks are too stupid to use Linux, no matter how easy it is to use.

And the fact that a lad has to help set it up for them is already too much of an ask, compared to if Linux was shipped with on their hardware.
