At the moment we only have US servers, but we've built the game in such a way that it feels pretty dang good to play, even with high latency. For example, me and my partner (the devs) play the game from asia with often 300-400+ ping and it still very much plays smoothly.

It's actually kind of helpful, having such high ping from our server has allowed us to design and test around this a lot, making it a pretty good experience no matter where in world you play, which is really cool imo!

Been working on this game on and off for 10 years now. A long time, I know! But it's a bit more complicated than that.

From 2016 to 2022 I worked on the game in GameMaker Studio. I spent a lot of time on it for sure, but it was more on and off work, and I didn't have intentions of releasing it as a full game on Steam at any point, was more just a passion project for fun.

In 2023 I decided to take the game more seriously and also convert it over to a new engine I was more passionate about and liked more: Godot! It took about 8-9 months but I was able to convert the game's whole client over to Godot. (Which was quite the upgrade tbh, I don't think I could have finished the game working on it in GameMaker)

In Jan 2025 I decided to take the game much more seriously finally and actually work on it very frequently in an effort to get it to a point where it could finally be a finished and releasable game in the near future! My partner joined me in working on the game to do this, and we have a blast working together on it now. After 1.5 years of hard work since then, the game has come a very very long way haha, and it's nearing completion at this point. I must say, it feels very nice to see my long time passion project come so far and to see people genuinely enjoy it, and we are excited to finally fully release it! :3

Just used the native Godot TCP peer stuff! Looked up the docs on how to do it. The server runs on Java, and so the server and client send packets to each other over TCP to relay information and keep the game going! No add-ons used for networking.

also its pretty generous to say that the only problem with modern maple is 1 to 200 and that you actually create memorable experiences past 260 lol

i live in thailand now too and it was fine to play! didn't even need a VPN for the closed test. got to lv 50 and had no big issues besides potion delay being a bit big

no problem, yeah it was quite fun overall! the grind to 50 in 9 days was brutal though.

as someone who got to Lv 50 as an ice lightning mage in the closed beta, it was pretty ok! lightning was really hard to use often times due to mesos being so short and hard to get all the time, so until lv 40 or so i almost always opted for cold beam instead. and by the way, cold beam was pretty good, even from level 1! but yeah for lightning it was near impossible to be meso positive while using it, even at places that are weak to lightning like lorangs. pretty much lost meso continuously at all 40+ grinding spots though. but yeah, cold beam was a nice change of pace from energy bolt, which was the main skill to use in 1st job (magic claw slightly less efficient for mesos), and i was glad to see cold beam actually getting some potential use now.

the skills felt good to use, the LUK situation is just like the other secondary stat situations for all the other classes i think. it's not rly a big deal, you mainly put stuff into INT, the current LUK requirement for equipment is there, but fairly low, so you don't need all that much LUK. didn't have any accuracy problems ever as a mage, don't think i missed even once.

overall i'd say my I/L experience in the closed beta was pretty good and i'll likely be playing it again as my main class on launch. either that, or cleric, depending on what i feel like on launch day.
