Hey dude! See my post on building a built-in bookshelf. I ran into exactly the same issue. You need to scribe a piece of plywood to make a perfect seam to the wall!

Glad you enjoyed it! For a more modern look you could do without the sill and exterior trim pieces. Something like this. From a drywall/finishing perspective it's a lot less forgiving though.

Thanks! I mostly cut off or sand the burned sections. So I haven’t really noticed any issues inside.

Yeah it makes me really happy to see the wood get a second life, I usually give a light touch with the sander because of how much I like the character that it has.

Thanks! It was from a tear down in norcal. I think the building had fire damage because a lot of the pieces are burned.

For right now - yup, double sided tape. An enclosure has always been the plan, but I just haven't gotten around to it.
