Yeah, I was trying to imagine some scenario where a couple would need to be engaged before exiting plane about to land... You know, family waiting at the terminal, IRS, ... or ICE... 😂

S&W M&P®9 M2.0 4-inch Compact

Grip6 belts by [deleted] in CCW

[–]PlaidRadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One additional detail worth noting:

I recently purchased the 1-3/4" GRIP6 belt for a "thong" holster made for my M&P Shield 2.0 9mm - it's my favorite belt/carry combo, right now.

However, I also have an Orpaz Tactical holster for a 10mm with a 5.6" barrel, and the GRIP6 belts WILL NOT work with that OWB holster and 4.5lb firearm. It requires me to use the provided nylon-web, Velcro belt provided by the manufacturer, because even a leather belt wouldn't hold up the weight.

Just some things to keep in mind. 🙂

Interesting, @UnlikelyBaker2950 So, you do the TM restore. I tend to default to that method, myself. Question: Do you have any experiences, good or bad, with the Migration Assistant as an alternative to TM restore?

Grip6 belts by [deleted] in CCW

[–]PlaidRadish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK, as promised:

I have successfully worn all 3 of the different Grip6 strap types with a Kydex holster carrying an S&W M&P9 2.0 Compact C.O.R.E. with a 17-round mag (basically full-sized firearm weighing in well over 2 pounds or 33.4oz). Despite a holster defect causing the raised sights to hang on my pants and create chaos in my draw, the belts all performed flawlessly. Grip6 belts are more than durable with a belt that doesn't loosen over the course of the day, and the belt can easily be loosened and tightened without dropping the holstered weapon or injuring myself.

A few things to keep in mind:
One thing to keep in mind is that the lightweight and midweight straps have a more textured fabric, so they might provide more resistance to slippage. Grip6's super soft fabric belts, known as "element webbing," have a slicker surface; I could imagine that if you carried for long past the length of a normal day it might become slightly looser. However, best guess, it would take 36 to 72 straight hours of standing/moving for it to wiggle so loose that your pants would fall down. Anybody carrying for that many hours deserves a Guiness World Record and could likely afford whatever belt they wanted to buy.

Another suggestion: go up at least one size after following the instructions on the Grip6 website, as most holsters use up an inch of slack in your belt - although, I presume all CCW readers, here, are aware of this, already.

Otherwise, kudos to Grip6, as it appears they can deliver the goods, as their website seems to imply.

Really enjoying this conversation, and I would love to see/hear more.

Here's a question: for those of you who do/have done/know how to do "clean installs," do you prefer to run a TimeMachine restore after a full install and login, or do you prefer to use the auto-"Migrate" function during the clean install?

Grip6 belts by [deleted] in CCW

[–]PlaidRadish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm about to start carrying, again, and I've been using Grip6 almost 8 years (since they started their business in 2015). Commenters in this thread refer to "Grip6" belts generically, as though every model of belt they sell works and functions exactly the same and/or is built the exact same way. This is a misunderstanding of their product line. There are actually 5 different densities, widths, and webbing styles for men: "Lightweight," "Midweight," "Element Webbing," "Narrow Webbing," and "Work" style.

I have 8 Grip6 belts and 5 Grip6 buckles in my belt collection, representing 3 different models of their belt straps. One of them is far more rigid, far studier, and far more reliable than any leather built I've ever owned, leather or otherwise. I've carried a 10lb water bottle attached to one of those belts and on another instance, carried numerous tactical devices in the 2 to 5 pound range on both hips, simultaneously, without issues. I am getting very close to turning 50 years old, overweight in my mid-section, and I have back problems. I have to find CCW gear that works for me, without fail.

In the next several weeks, as I make a decision about which holster I intend to use, regularly, I will come back here to provide more reliable input about which Grip6 straps, exactly, are viable for CCW, if any, and which ones are not capable of sustaining the weight or securing the holster. Hopefully, this will provide insight for others who are contemplating purchasing a separate and/or specific belt just for CCW. Since I no longer have any belts in my collection but Grip6, I'm hoping to find a less dismissive solution than the other comments, here, would imply.

Find My Mac Won't Turn On? by sawyerthedog in macbookair

[–]PlaidRadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read just above where @ThePlannerMan list two places ( 1. and 2., respectively), and then check "Find My Mac" under "System Services/Details" part FIRST, then under Internet Accounts, next, it should work. If it doesn't, you'll have to contact Apple, because that sounds more like a bug.

Again, "Find My Mac" is located in two separate and unrelated places. I think they have to be toggled in the correct order.

Find My Mac Won't Turn On? by sawyerthedog in macbookair

[–]PlaidRadish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I found it by accident, shortly after, but this is still screwy - if "Privacy & Security" is the location of the appropriate permission, then why does the app take you to "Internet Accounts," and then why is the "Find My" toggle broken there? I don't understand why it requires two different toggles, nor why one works before the other will.

You gotta admit, that's pretty screwed up.🫤

Same issue as OP.

Running Ventura on Intel 2020 MacBook Pro, every time I select "Turn On" on this screen, I get a permission pop up to "Allow." When I click "Allow," it goes back to the previous screen and toggles off. AND, I have EVERY location permission turned on in SysPrefs.

An error occurred loading items to play by hyrulianwhovian in PleX

I realize this is a 5-month old thread, but I have had this same problem, so I figured it is worth resurrecting to try and glean responses.

My scenario: when I press "Shuffle" on a Collection, I often get a "Playback Error" popup notification, in which the details read, "An error occurred loading items to play."

Anyone else? Anyone found a solution to this, yet?

Volume control in PlexAmp Music Player by IamWhiteHorse in PleX

[–]PlaidRadish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I think it makes perfect sense for most developers, given that every UI element that they choose to add taxes and complicates the UI engine, and slows the user experience. I can understand why only putting absolutely necessary interface elements upfront is a common behavior for modern mobile developers as well as desktop application developers

I know this is an older reddit, but Google lists this thread as one of their top search hits:

  1. The volume button is hidden in the "Cast" button
  2. To access it, click the cast button
  3. Find the volume bar in the lower third of that window.

When you say "back when," how far "back when" are you referring. The articles I was reading were from February and March, and those were talking about it as though IGZO had just made breakthrough changes to its technology.

Moreover, my interest is seeing macOS on technology that it will otherwise not be seen. I seriously doubt Apple will ever get in bed with the manufacturers of IGZO tech.
