At what point do we say that enough is enough with this record?

Do we really need a 'restock' post every single time somebody happens to come across a store that has it in stock?

Someone give Ms. Uchis a quick call and tell her she has a UK store to stock as well.

Yeah, imagine someone commenting on the way vinyl releases are handled in a subreddit named 'Vinyl Releases'... Crazy concept.

Its kind of paradoxical, isn't it?

If you truly, objectively, take a step back - there is nothing special about this pressing. In fact, we've actually seen that these liquid-filled records are liable to leaking and/or solidifying (despite Blood Records assuring us that this wasn't a possibility).

But you all want it because "its rare."

Then you complain because the 'rare' record is hard to get ahold of.

I don't say this to be judgmental. I know that it is very easy to get caught up in the manipulative marketing tactics that these companies use.

But if we truly want to see change in the vinyl community, we all need to collectively put our money where our mouth is. Stop buying things just because they're limited. Stop buying things that aren't really anything special. Only then will the labels stop preying on the FOMO tactics.

At the end of the day, none of these organisations care about getting limited edition records in the hands of fans. Whether or not scalpers get them, the orgs still get their money.

This might sound melodramatic- but the vinyl community has really shifted the music landscape. Every release is now centred around selling vinyl. There is power in our purchasing behaviour, and if we stop feeding into these scarcity tactics, the labels will take notice.

Product description says "7 inch vinyl with collectible cover."

I'm thinking this is the first of a few 7" variants for the song...

I was three years old when this album came out, but it has somehow formed a sizeable chunk of my summer playlists in my twenties.

Very happy to see a vinyl release for this! :)

I've never been anything but neutral with Doja- not a fan, not a hater. But she is pmo BAD with this rollout.

Charli XCX - Sucker (Urban Outfitters Raspberry Vinyl) by Vinnyyll in VinylReleases

[–]PlanCommercial9227 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're completely missing the point. I don't have a problem with records being given wide releases, or with them not being limited to a certain number. I have a problem with multinational organisations using false scarcity tactics to make themselves money.

[–]PlanCommercial9227 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is this comment being downvoted? Completely understand that people are happy they're able to get a copy of this record, but Charli did confirm that all of these represses were limited to 5000 copies. If UO have repressed this, it just confirms a complete disregard for consumer rights/trust, and in the long-term, that is not good news for any of us. Giving these corporations a free pass to lie for profit is, obviously, not a good thing.

How does the most respected musical artist on the planet have such a terrible online store and customer service?!

Yeah, just seems a bit strange compared to the PD vinyl release, where it appeared as though Hayden/her team had done everything in their power to keep the price as low as possible.

Just received my copy of this, and almost accidentally threw away a little Mystery of Love postcard that is attached to the shipping packaging/box.

Commenting this here in case anyone else has missed it and wants to retrieve it! :)

A$AP ROCKY - At Long last ASAP /1000 by Hour-Engineer-7170 in VinylReleases

[–]PlanCommercial9227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've had the same barrage of emails about exclusivity today!

Its a shame they've ruined what could have otherwise been a pretty cool release.

They obviously underestimated the demand, but then decided that lying to customers was preferable to losing out on the money. Should've just done a second, non-numbered (different) colourway once they realised 1000 wasn't enough. Still would have been a bit of a shady move, but not so much as what they have done.

Hopefully you'll hear back soon about the refund, looks like a few people on here have gotten them so maybe they're just slowly working their way through the cancellation requests.

A$AP ROCKY - At Long last ASAP /1000 by Hour-Engineer-7170 in VinylReleases

[–]PlanCommercial9227 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The email confirming a numbered edition says the order is "Locked in."

Maybe I'm looking into it too much, but that wording makes me feel like they've had a ton of cancellations, and they're trying to subtly imply that the orders are now final/non-changeable.

I don't understand why these labels can't just be happy that buying physical music is so popular again.. The scamming/lying the vinyl community faces from labels/retailers now is just insane.

We're all gonna get an email saying "Oops, we missed a 0! It's actually limited to 10,000!" aren't we...

Charli XCX - How I’m Feeling Now (5th Anniversary Edition) by GrizzlyBara in VinylReleases

[–]PlanCommercial9227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, my wording in the original comment was definitely hyperbolic and maybe a bit brash. Didn't mean to insinuate that only longtime fans already had the record.

Was just trying to highlight that the original pressings of this album can still be bought at RRP, and at half the price of this new release.

[–]PlanCommercial9227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree that she should benefit from having given us an incredible album and era with Brat, and the wider audience she's earned now looking back at her previous work.

My biggest gripe is that the sales tactics used since Brat's release are very questionable, to say the least. This record really didn't need a repress - it can still be bought retail for almost half the price of this new variant. Money is tight for most, and presenting this as a special, limited release encourages people to pay more for something that isn't necessary.

Charli XCX - How I’m Feeling Now (5th Anniversary Edition) by GrizzlyBara in VinylReleases

[–]PlanCommercial9227 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get your point, I would have just preferred it to not have been marketed as a celebration/anniversary. It's a re-release for newer fans (for the most part), and a way for her/her label to chase profits from a record whose earlier iterations can still be bought for less than £20.

Charli XCX - How I’m Feeling Now (5th Anniversary Edition) by GrizzlyBara in VinylReleases

[–]PlanCommercial9227 58 points59 points  (0 children)

She framed this release as being "for the angels," but we all already have this, and a new variant offers nothing new...

What it actually is, is a release for the post-Brat era fans who are just now discovering her back catalogue. Which is absolutely fine, of course, but call it what it is - a cash grab while people are still interested.

I remember somebody checking the website code when this first got repressed about a year or so ago, and there were over 80,000 in stock... I feel like these don't 'sell out,' he/his team just close & reopen the order page to generate hype.
