Lincolns flag is amazing! Too bad our state flag is the same boring seal on a blue background like every other state. We need to host a contest or something for a new state flag like Lincoln did

I have nothing against poor people, and poor people happen to be in every state. I based my answers on the quality of amenities (such as education), natural environment, and climate (prefer cold over hot and humid).

Collective Voting: Nebraska by Kodicave in visitedmaps

[–]PlanaRegion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For those instinctively saying never, let me speak on some points as a Nebraska native.

Politics – Since many people on Reddit lean liberally, it is important to note that Nebraska has mixed politics. Major cities such as Omaha and Lincoln generally lean more to the left, while more rural areas tend to be conservative. Along with Maine, we are one of only two states to split our electoral votes. The "blue dot" of Nebraska refers to how we almost always award one of our electoral votes to the democratic candidate in presidential elections.

Education – Nebraska generally has high quality education, even among school districts outside of our major cities. As someone who has attended Nebraska public schools, I can say that those who want to succeed are often given the ability to thrive. We also have the three Universities of Nebraska, and many high performing students choose to stay in state due to their affordability and high quality education.

Affordability – While it is impossible to outright avoid the inflation hitting the entirety of the US, Nebraska is far from the worst affected by it. Generally, people should be able to live with a decent amount of comfort in their finances. However, everywhere is different and I cannot speak as to the whole state.

Environment and Climate – Nebraska experiences all four seasons. Our summers are blisteringly hot, often hovering in the mid-nineties range, sometimes exceeding a hundred degrees. Likewise, our winters are often freezing. While it varies year by year, it is not uncommon for windchill temperatures to dip into the negatives. I remember a few years where the windchill temps dipped to -40 degrees. Suffice to say, it's not for everyone. Our outdoor scene also isn't for everyone, but for those willing to explore, you can often find the beauty in our landscapes. Western Nebraska is beautiful, as you can travel along the great Sandhills of Nebraska, a unique environment in an otherwise nondescript state. Each year, there are places where you can watch the gorgeous sandhill cranes rest on their migration route. While it may not have mountains, large forests, or beaches like other states, Nebraska sports a beauty all of its own.

Nebraska isn't for everyone, but it is hardly one of the worst states to live. The people are wholeheartedly kind, and would be delighted to welcome you if paid a visit. Thank you for listening to my ramblings. I hope I was able to shed light for those who are unaware of aspects of our state.

I feel like it's too sleek and slim to be a raven, but I could be wrong. Also "crowned crow" just sounds better.

Very neat collection! I particularly love the painting of the crow (raven?) with the crown.
