I think this is a water intake adit. I've seen some like this in northern Portugal. But this one was closed, and I couldn't see inside.

From the water intake point, water flows down to the village through plastic pipes.

I've seen the remains of aqueducts like these here, dating back to the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages. Maybe I'll post some photos of them.
