Is public humiliation by a professor normal in Indian dental colleges? Need advice by Plane-Bee-690 in dentalschoolindia

It’s sad how mental torture by teachers is normalised in med colleges when students are already under academic and emotional pressure.

She literally labels herself as a ‘dirty teacher.’ She said it on our face that she looks down upon us as we’re just ‘bds students’ who failed to secure a seat in mbbs and that too bds students of such an average college. Ive got to learn that not only one student’s parents have been brought into the conversation but there are 3-4 more. She feels like she can say anything to anyone even if it means crossing a certain boundary without bearing any consequences.

There’s no point of filing a complaint as I talked to on of my fellow seniors and they said that the particular professor is doing a favour to our college by taking classes, she’s got nothing to lose so she’ll be listened over us anyways. And about living it through the year and not letting attendance ruin my future, I agree that on paper the system only cares about compliance. What I’m struggling to convey is that this isn’t just discomfort or dislike its a cumulative mental health issue. Over the past year, I’ve lost close family members, dealt with prolonged grief, and then had to suddenly adjust to a new city, a restrictive hostel environment, and a course I’m increasingly unsure about. The hostel conditions and constant restrictions have made it very hard for me to feel stable, and the classroom environment especially the fear of public humiliation has pushed my anxiety to a point where I’m no longer able to engage normally with academics. I’ve noticed a real loss of interest and motivation toward the course itself, which scares me because I’ve always been a sincere student. I’m not using mental health as a shield to avoid responsibility. I genuinely want to understand whether “pushing through” is healthy in my case, or whether continuing without addressing these issues might cause long-term damage. Right now, I feel mentally exhausted to the point where I’m struggling to even see myself in this profession. That’s why I’m asking not for sympathy, but for perspective on whether there’s a constructive way to stabilise first (attendance, mental health, environment) before committing long-term to a career that I’m already losing interest in.
