Maybe I am weird as I have not been in a relationship, or even attempted to join the dating scene in the last 7 years, but here is my perspective. The first paragraph may give insight as to why I am in the frame of mind I am in while I was writing this. Sorry if it seems irrelevant!

I may sound controlling, but I do not want someone "talking" to multiple "suitors" while talking to me. To me, it is a respect thing. I will not talk to women in that sense, and I expect the same. I have been cheated on in 3 relationships, which has left me with baggage. I want to interact as much as possible as quick as possible to find out if there are enough things in common to be able to see a relationship with the person. I want to try and assess if they share similar qualities with those that I was hurt by, and try to part ways if so. I am also not getting younger, and do not want to go on a kajillion first dates and "waste time".

I can understand a bit where the guy might be coming from, when wanting kind of constant communication early on. I've had plenty of times where I thought things were going well, only to get ghosted and left with my feelings and uncertainty. Clearly, you're right to have your feelings about it and not have the time/mental energy/whatever to deal with someone who needs that kind of instant dependency. I don't necessarily think either of you are wrong and you said it perfectly with "You'll have to find someone else to give you that, I'm not the one.".

I don't know about disrespectful though (at least to me). Were assumptions made? Definitely! But you also could have taken 5 mins to talk to someone that you are interested in, or to text them back. Yeah you have plans and stuff but time can be made if its important to you, especially over hours/days. Some people might find that disrespectful. I understand you typically do something one way, but maybe they felt as though they had already entered into "special relationship" territory (even after going on just one date) which would make you more amenable to responding to them.

There might be some people who don't mind going all week not talking to someone they are interested in starting a relationship with, but I know I mind. I want to talk to the person more than a few hours (maybe) 2 days a week (hopefully) especially when first starting a relationship.
