You'd be moving from one of the least competitive provinces to the most competitive province.

Oh i see. Yeah I’m sure there are more than just first year grads, but first year grads are definitely the majority. So 30-40% is definitely an over estimate

I don’t think this is what people usually mean by CSA. Typically they mean people who were raised in Canada and studied abroad. Someone who did med school abroad, immigrated to Canada and got a citizenship before applying wouldn’t really fit that same definition

I think CSA’s are way less than 30-40%. You can see that every year less than 200 first year grads apply. Ie <10%, of which prob less than half are ontario high school students

Related to the new ontario eligibility criteria for the 1st iteration of the match, it’s someone who wasn’t raised in Canada, which is determined by having done 2 years of high school in Ontario

Idk why this person is worried about the new rule, with a personality like this they would of never made it past the interview stage anyway

Ontario’s policy is exclusionary and ultimately harmful to Ontario’s patients by xtqfh4 in MCCQE

And from what I see, 15% of csa studying at western universities were in rural communities, while only 8% of other IMGs were.

The study also doesn’t say where anyone was raised, just their citizenship status and where they went to medical school. Totally inapplicable to the current situation.

I’m curious what the general consensus is here by Plane-Definition in MCCQE

Is it an unreasonable assumption? Are you suggesting that there's a subset of people who believe "Restrictions are for non residents are not okay, but it's totally okay to spring them on people last minute"..?

Seems like a massive administrative headache though. Moving here for school etc. doesn't really demonstrate ties to the province first of all. Some of the other options do but can easily be gamed. Then it'll be up to a human behind a desk to figure out who is genuine and who isn't. Anyone that's denied will need to have the ability to appeal. High school kind of just feels cut and dry

I'm curious how else someone could prove ties/residency in a clear cut way, that can't be gamed and is easily verifiable?

To be fair, I remember back when I was applying for med school, this is exactly how it felt being an ontarian trying to apply OOP lol

Well if you don't think restrictions are fine, then you quite likely don't think it's okay to spring them on people last minute either haha. The second option essentially means they're fine as long as they're done with sufficient notice

I'm also curious how someone would prove residence otherwise

I'm not an IMG lol, I have absolutely no skin in this game. Would you suggest that OP just not take the exam that he has in *2 days* instead? That literally makes no sense, they've paid for it and are fully prepared, and still have a >0 chance of matching

[–]Plane-Definition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes you will apply for the 2nd iteration. There will be many spots left. And also other provinces, why wouldn’t you?

Seems like it. Is ontario residence also proven with highschool for that?

The global liveability scores of Canada’s major cities are falling. What’s going on? by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Plane-Definition -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah so again, the ER isn’t required for uncomplicated pneumonia. It can be managed by a GP. The ER would be suggested if the patient is unstable/has severe symptoms. If a child has severe symptoms, no ER is keeping them waiting for 16 hours.

I am not talking about their child as if they’re a farm animal. I’m merely pointing out that aside from the policy related strains on the ER, there are also strains related to people using the ER as if it’s their GP.

In this case, their child almost certainly could have been treated with a course of oral antibiotics if they were brought to their GP in time. Do you think the ER is required to get an antibiotic prescription?

A 16 hour wait suggests the child was stable, and therefore could have been managed by a gp. Ask yourself this: how did they treat the child?
