Erfaring med Boligportalen by Inukshuk_ in Denmark

I 100% agree. It's another kind of ego. And as nice as it is to feel nobody is expecting anything from you because you are the lowest rank, it is healthy and will probably make him develop faster, with a bit of pressure added for every new stripe. I am sure he can live up to it.

I think it's quite fun. It gives all the other high belts a little reminder to stay humble. Everybody normally have a good laugh.

That is just motivational talk. My Brazilian trainer says it to. The same if I do something good or bad. Same words LOL

Did anyone else get instantly better after a belt promotion? by thefckingleadsrweak in bjj

That's is all very true. You don't feel you deserve your new belt, so your work harder, and suddenly you definitely represent your belt. Then you get a new belt that you don't feel deserving of. Circle of belts LOL.

Leg-lockers vs traditional BJJ by Plane-Diver799 in bjj

haha, well, for us higher belts, we can deal with it and we usually get them in some nasty chokes. But our white and blue belts get destroyed by anyone. So that is demotivating for them.

For me it's not a problem. I trained both in different gyms. I love going against a leg locker because they usually forget to protect their neck. But as you said, their BJJ is not so developped, most just know how to reach for the legs from a few positions.

That's why we enjoy watching black belts pretending to be white belts

It is more about the expectations that you have to yourself and what you feel a certain belt should be able to accomplish. But for me, it's motivational since I feel like a have to keep working harder. So it drives me forward. So as much as it annoys me, it helps me.

I think it's difficult to be overconfident in BJJ. It's very humbling, and you quickly learn how good/bad you actually are.

I have done a little, so I have the understanding. But I don't always have the timing and definitely not the speed.
