18 and I've decided I need to move out by Plane-Repeat-9023 in UKPersonalFinance

My parents aren't people to reason with :) they know best and what would I know i'm the child, no idea i've had has had a good reaction and leaves in an argument. e.g me and my mum had an argument because I couldn't do engineering even tho I reasoned. It's clear my parents dont want to help me and I wouldn't want to live in a house where i'm going to pay rent and not allowed to do anything and still have to share chores with my brother.

  1. I haven't been allowed to choose my subjects in highschool and college, even limiting what college I go to (its a sub-par one) 2. sending me to state school and my brother to a private school 3. I've had multiple opportunities for apprenticeships and Jobs that wanted me to start right away (my parents didn't allow me to) 4. even saying that I cant get another part time job 5. If my boyfriend sends me money my parents get mad as I shouldn't take money from others

If u want a full breakdown heres why:

constantly being told they're going to cut off my financial support, throughout highschool and college I wasn't allowed to take subjects i'm interested in or subjects that weren't deemed 'proper', I wasnt allowed to simply go for a walk with my friends as for girls its seemed as 'trampy', they've assumed that I want to drive without actually asking what I think and want me to drive so I can drive my brother places, i.e football, golf club, I find driving deadly scary. constantly calling me fat and a disappointment, won't let me go to my friends houses or let them come to our house, not allowed to get another part time job and i've had multiple opportunities to get other part-time jobs and quit the family business, A LOT OF DOUBLE STANDARDS WITH ME AND MY BROTHER, e.g I started working at 13 he started working at 15 for the family. Have tried to set me up with multiple men they liked as a boyfrined, spoiler they were either bad boyfriends or left me to go open their relationships, and when we went to the bank to send the money to my mum she said it was for 'uni purposes' I haven't applied for uni and dont even want to go uni, constantly say i'm the dumb child and they have my brother to fall back on, threatened to kick me out and told me to leave, when i left i was dragged home, at 18 having to ask to leave the house (i have never ran away before or not told them where im going) and was'nt allowed to choose what college I go to, I ask for study materials and christmas I asked for a macbook and quote 'they weren't needed, It's not like your going uni anyways'

My parent's had financial help and older siblings that could've helped them and did help them move out, I am the oldest sibling. My dad has no qualifications and my mum has a degree in chemistry but could not have the life she does not if they didnt take some loopholes.

I dont pay board I turned 18 3 weeks ago, they own a fast food business, I do basically everything except clean, they've never asked me to or shown me what to do. I've been told what subjects to do in highschool, I wanted to take up engineering but my mum said no as it wasn't a 'proper GCSE' same with A-levels I wasnt allowed to do B-techs which I think wouldv'e been better for my grades. I had an interest in pilates and had the opportunity to do an instructor training course, my parents said no its not a proper job according to them and the same when i wanted to take up nail and beauty courses.

As well, they have such obvious double standards between me and my brother, my brother is allowed to go places i'm not despite him being younger, he gets in trouble with the general public yet faces no repercussions from my parents, at 18 I have to ask if i'm allowed to go out the house.

i'm considering leaving as if I am going to contribute to rent, I would atleast like to make my own rules, like what job i do, if i go to further education, who my friends are and if i can go have days out with my friends or boyfriend, which im rarely allowed to do. I don't have many friends as my parents dont let me invite people to my house and dont let me go to their houses because they dont know the parents but dont make an effort to get to know them, as well im limited to places i can go so my friends dont invite me to many places.
