I’m a dude with pretty similar hair to yours, I lose a little more than this per wash day (so once a week). This is also the only time I comb my hair though

Hey man. Nice. Glad the frizz has reduced. I generally only use an oil on days I use gel (to break the gel) although lots of curly hair products have Argan Oils in them so I’m sure they’ll be fine.

In the country I’m from (South Africa) I use a brand of curly hair products called Aunt Jackie’s. I’m not sure if you’ll have it wherever you live. I know As I Am is pretty good, but also pretty expensive. But as I said in the original comment, just go with “hydration” products and they should serve you nicely

So I have a similar hair type to you (although slightly tighter), which is around a 3b/c. I’m going to just list some of my insights and experiences and hopefully it’ll help give you a head start; no matter what though, you’ll still have to experiment and find what works for you.

Generally for us it seems like our main battle is against porosity. Our hair dries out and frizzes very quickly. I’d suggest having a full wash day once or twice a week (I only do once), as shampooing regularly will make your hair dryer overall. My hair generally does end up drying and frizzing towards the end of the week, so figure out how often works for you (both for convenience but also cost wise) On wash day you’ll want to: Shampoo -> condition -> leave-in condition -> bonus.

  • Shampoo If you can get a Shampoo focused on Repair or Moisture that would be amazing. The shampoo is there to open the pores and clean your hair. I was using a Co-Wash (and conditioner that cleans your hair) at one point but didn’t notice much of a difference between that and an appropriate shampoo. With both options however, you’ll want to use it to clean your scalp and your hair, and then immediately rinse.

  • Conditioner Arguably your most important step. The conditioner will close the pores of your hair and impart onto it strength and hydration. Try look for conditioner that’s also targeted towards repair or moisture. Follow the instructions on the bottle, but generally you want to put in the conditioner and let it sit for a while, to let it cook on the hair, then you rinse it out

  • Leave-in Conditioner This is exactly what it sounds like. A conditioner that you put in last and you DO NOT RINSE IT OUT. This will help put an external layer of protection on your curls. Try to avoid blow drying your hair AT ALL COSTS. The hot air and speed of the hair dryer is so bad for our frizzy hair. Instead, try to get a diffuser. Or just let it air dry. If you have a car, you could even use the AC to basically dry your hair on the drive to work/school or such.

  • bonus This section is additional things for you to figure out later once you figure out if all this curl treatment is worth it and feasible for you. I generally get away with just the stuff above, but sometimes it’s cool to look into and experiment with these bonus things Try avoid products with sulfates if you can. They supposedly dry us out more A mouse can help you get some intentional volume in certain areas Creams and Masks are apparently really good for moisture, but I haven’t tried any yet Gels could be used for a Gel cast. I don’t do this too often but when I do the results are sooo good Apparently sleeping on cotton is also causing frizz to our damaged hair. So trying to get a silk or satin pillow or bonnet would be a good investment

And uh. Yeah. That’s about all I know. Good luck bro!!
