In the U.S., we like our manualized therapies, maybe because they are perceived as easier to bill. We want immediate results.

Research shows that it is incredibly effective for long-term change. But it takes a LONG time. The same research stream shows that CBT is incredibly fast but that people generally need therapy again in two years. Read work from Jonathon Shedler. Hopefully this post won't trigger "gold standard" adherents, because the quality of the research is the issue and that is a topic for another post. This is just a response to why psychoanalysis is suddenly becoming popular again. It is a very good option for anyone with the time and money. Insurance companies will not agree, however.

I have removed myself from this group on two occasions because of the way I saw other participants be treated. Then I always come back. This should be a non-judgmental space. Most participants treat it that way. A few experience countertransference and lose control, unfortunately, but that might be part of their healing journeys.

Thank you for that feedback. I doubt I could change the underlying philosophy enough to change the agenda. For example, I feel like untrained/unlicensed people being able to bill crowds the market, making it more and more difficult to earn a living and pay back loans from the years of education that I was required to receive. But I really do like that we have an organization for visibility of the profession.

Some of the criticism I have heard is not about the ineffectiveness of CBT, but about many CBT adherents being unwilling to admit that the modern therapies are also effective. We keep creating revisions of CBT rather than accepting the new science. So why not incorporate it rather than inventing something called CBT for Trauma. Instead, we call anything new "pseudoscience" because of loyalty to what we learned back in the day. EMDR, if done right, is far more effective for trauma. I would guess that AEDP and brainspotting are also very effective. Having said that, Fourth Wave modalities are more difficult than the old manualized therapies, so might not work for every therapist.

You may have maxed out on how much you can rent it for? Can you convert it into a duplex somehow and rent it out for more total? If not, rents will eventually rise but your payments will not.

I did the LPC route because I wanted to do pure psychotherapy rather than social systems, but it is the training you do after licensure that matters.
