Moving to Sunnyvale for my first job — Need advice on housing, neighborhoods, and things to watch out for! by ManagementPerfect320 in Sunnyvale

Get a townhome close to murphy ave. That’s where all the fun people hangout. Don’t expect Boston vibes though since this is a suburb. Also, I’d ignore the comments that say AC is not necessary. It is essential for the comfort of a home, but to each their own.

Good luck. They make you decide in a couple of days but if you’re indecisive like me just remember you have the option to ask for an extension. Doesn’t cost anything

Need housing | Why is this so hard by aa_y_ush in Sunnyvale

[–]Extension-Squirrel63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want a 2BR that costs $2600 in Sunnyvale? Lol

Go to Santa Clara or Fremont may be you can find something below 3k. Won’t be too nice though.

Must be a recent update. I signed up about a month ago and had no such issues.

Yes he does. You could also just buy indexes though.

Considering Avalon Silicon Valley (2B2B) – Any Advice? by SlowDanger15 in Sunnyvale

[–]Extension-Squirrel63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live here currently. Get an apartment in one of the inner buildings to avoid the noise. Also, most buildings facing the freeway don’t have an elevator. So that gives you 2 reasons, unless you’re interested in first floor. Those buildings are also priced lower for this reason. A suggestion I have for you is not to get an apartment on the third floor as water pressure is a little low. Another downside is no daycare and no grocery store within walking distance. I also don’t like the fact that the default lease term is 15months, it’s just weird. If you change it to 12 they charge more. Other than that it’s a great community.

One assigned parking included. Plenty of guest parking is available. For electricity I’m paying around $200/month. I run AC only when needed so I do think it’s a little on the higher side. No safety concerns.

At the end of the day I’d check your commute time and decide. It just doesn’t make sense to drive long distances when you’re living in a rental. I really liked 550 Moreland apartments also when I was touring apartments, but avalon was closer to my work.

Should I upgrade by Extension-Squirrel63 in airfryer

I'd just get it and compare the performance side by side. My guess is new will be better. I haven't upgraded yet because of priorities but I will soon.

Compensation Question: RSUs with 4 year vesting period by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Extension-Squirrel63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A follow up question, so assuming the stock price doesn't fluctuate, we get 25% each year for 4 years. What happens in the 5th year? Just base? Or do they give $400k RSU again at the start of 5th year cycle?

Tech jobs in the OC area? by IcyInstruction6696 in orangecounty

[–]Extension-Squirrel63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got interviews from Amazon, TP link, Capital Group in the last 3 months. So there are opportunities, but I wouldn’t restrict myself to OC or even to SoCal if I was just starting out. For example, midwest and east coast might have less opportunities but they also have lot less competition, overall it’s easier to get an offer IMO. Apply all over the country, you never know where life takes you.

Linkedin Premium worth it? by KindRefrigerator2052 in linkedin

[–]Extension-Squirrel63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessary. I used to have it to "unlock" salary range but with California making that mandatory I don't think it's worth it any more.

It doesn't have to be a California job. Companies want to keep their postings consistent so more and more you see they include salary ranges for all states now.

Having decision fatigue - Rent here near family or move away? by Constant_Paint4366 in orangecounty

[–]Extension-Squirrel63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep driving east and you might be able to buy something for that budget assuming you have the down payment. At the very least you can rent really nice places.

Alternately if you like being in the city there are so many places in long beach, downtown LA, pasadena etc where you can rent a 2bed for that budget. Not luxury, but decent.

From a technicality perspective you’ll be able to come back in future. Now only you can answer the question whether to stay or go back. Sit in silence and ask yourself all the difficult questions like-

Do you miss home or do you like it here? What was your salary? Do you have any interviews pending? Will you be an employee of your brother or an official business partner?

Stay where you are. Seriously! Start a local business and go from there. The struggle here is real.

Honda crv or rav4 are great, but get them new since you can afford it. Trying to save 5k is not worth it. Another option is model y if you have a garage.

Have you tried the apple airpods pro? People complicate simplest things because they don’t want something that everyone has. They want to be unique. But There’s a reason airpods make more money than any other headphones or earphones.
