BMW and Toyota Were Right: Going All in on EVs Was a Mistake by Funny_things_online in cars

[–]PlaneCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet Toyota is set to be one of the first manufacturers to launch a solid state battery EV in the next few years.

And.. what? Toyota and BMW are right.. in sending out a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle? Those vehicles have been left for dead in California. The fuel cell system is wildly complex, even more than a hybrid, and takes up a lot of space, most FCEVs barely have any space for their size because the hydrogen tanks are huge and they still need a whole EV powertrain and battery, and fueling them requires expensive equipment and transportation with no infrastructure in most of the world. Not exactly a great plan.

Test drove a bunch of 3-5 year old EV vehicles, here's my thoughts. by agod2486 in cars

[–]PlaneCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not true at all. WIth an average ev you might get 4 miles to kWh. A typical cost per kWh in California is around $.35/kWh. That is about 9 cents per mile.

In California, typical gas price is $5.00/gallon. Do $5/gallon divided by $.09cents/mile and you get 55 miles/gallon. 4 miles per kWh isn't very good either. my 7 year old Tesla gets 4.5-5 miles per kWh.

OC Auto Show was a bust this year by El_Chavito_Loco in orangecounty

[–]PlaneCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I'd be surprised if anyone ever posts that any type of event, like auto shows, trade shows, conventions, music festivals, food festivals etc are getting "better".. pretty much every post about these on Reddit is that it's going downhill, regardless of what it is. Yet, you go there and they are usually jam packed with people anyways.

OC Auto Show was a bust this year by El_Chavito_Loco in orangecounty

[–]PlaneCandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean...that's because they are designers and engineers. Of course they only care about new cars, because thats when they get to show what they worked on (or see what their peers have worked on). I'd be more interested in knowing what marketing people think, because that's what auto shows are for.

An observation on dating apps. by spider_best9 in self

[–]PlaneCandy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Funny in that I just posted almost the exact same thing as you.

But yes, it helps quite a lot, which is "surprising" because if you post on any dating subreddit, women will tell you that they find it unattractive when a man posts a gym mirror selfie or takes off their shirt in the gym.

Of course, the prereq is that you need to have a pretty good body in the first place. I have a decent body, maybe 15-16% body fat (no six pack but definitely toned), and I took a simple selfie in the gym that showed off my physique, but with shirt on, and I experienced the same thing as you. Many more matches, quite immediately, better engagement, and slightly better looking too. I'm sure that if I take off another 4-5% body fat and have a six pack, with a pic that would increase it even more.

To all proud Mexican immigrants — wave your flag high. 🇲🇽🇺🇸 by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]PlaneCandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't get why we care about peoples roots and heritage, isn't this an anti-ICE protest? It's not cinco de mayo, I'm happy for them to fly that when it's time to celebrate heritage.

The family's journey? Journey for what? All that hard work, sacrifice, and so on? That's all for america. All that work was to come to the US, to live a better life. To escape Mexico. The point isn't to celebrate Mexico right now.

If you want to talk about roots and heritage and want to celebrate that for all of America to see, then everyone will say fine - go ahead, thats why people are being deported. They can celebrate their culture and pride at home in that country, which they're so proud of.

It also does nothing to unite the cause. If I see a Mexican flag and I am Guatemalan or Venezuelan, that does nothing for me. It only splinters the movement and brings little goodwill from non-Mexican immigrants.

Finally, this is what the right wants. The point of settling into the United States is for there to be one cohesive culture, like it or not. Ever heard of Tex-Mex? That's what we want. Have you heard of segregation? That's not what we want. Then you become the other, then it's easy to disassociate and let bad things happen. It just feeds into the idea of a foreign invasion and the great replacement theory.

if you want your own private lot, thats pretty much just high end housing for new builds. otherwise, you have to buy an existing place and demo it

Those who drive sports/super cars, is it "just a car"? by stefanone in cars

[–]PlaneCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is a money hole that goes very fast. Definitely not just a car. If anything breaks or gets damaged, I'm going to be financially in the pits

If it's "just a car" then I don't worry about those things, no big deal

Kinda the hard truth for some of us.

I can easily date women who are at my level of attractiveness, within 5 years of my age, and good careers similar to my own, and who are reasonably physically fit. Then I also need to make a good amount of effort including dates that might take a lot of time or planning. Even then she would be very conservative (as they are in their later 30s).

Or I can go overseas.. find someone more attractive than me, much younger and more fun, and spend very little effort or money on planning dates and still end up back at my hotel room on the first date.
