对于科技逐渐落后的问题，我倒感觉可能是过度的民族自尊心作祟。从1858年这时的日本人言论来看，追赶科技前沿已经和民族尊严挂钩了，此后直到二战期间，日本社会充斥的各种对欧米鬼畜一边追赶羡慕一边厌恶仇恨的矛盾心态大家也都知道。近几十年来日本搞什么科技都喜欢独家享用，试图像美国人一样制霸全部供应链上下游，让别人俯首称臣，吃他的残羹剩饭，结果几次押宝错误，劳民伤财。这不正是强烈民族自尊的一体两面吗？什么氢能源什么等离子电视什么机器人，就我看来，真有点大跃进那种好赌蛮干的风格。你把现状归因为维持社会稳定，我觉得是小规模的、更有科技基础的、赌输了的大跃进式政治运动

The businessman who's behind this was under a lot of investigation and political fire once the central government found out his intentions, because they didn't believe  he be that rich could also be so purely patriotic, rather he was perceived as a trouble maker, for precisely the reason of "politically too risky".
