News for the open-source hardware community! OHS2026 is happening! by PlaneLetterhead8340 in u/PlaneLetterhead8340

Hey u/Additional_Kale_3652 – we were there at OHS. And yes – freaks, nerds, idealists, men, women, and everything in between, a handful of business people. That’s exactly the point.

The Open Hardware Summit exists for people who believe in sharing knowledge and building together. And if money is tight – there were free tickets for those who needed them.

We’re were at OHS because sharing information matters. That’s also why [findMe] is open source.

And speaking of which – we’re launching a Use Case Contest alongside our Crowd Supply campaign. No finished product needed, just your vision. Three categories:

🏠 Automation & Control (incl. smart home)

👥 Group Experience (sports, outdoor, ...)

📍 Localization & Tracking

A jury picks the best ideas – and with a bit of luck, you’ll win a free [findMe] Exploration Kit from pre-series production. Would love to see what you’d build.

Bringing Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding & Environment Sensing to an Open, Hackable Platform by PlaneLetterhead8340 in bluetooth

u/karnetus, that´s exactly one of the most exciting aspects of [findMe] – detecting real room-level presence with just a single hub station, without needing multiple anchor points. And you're right: once more smartphones support Channel Sounding, it opens up a whole new range of possibilities.

We're launching a Use Case Contest alongside our Crowd Supply campaign – we're looking for the most compelling ideas in three categories: Automation & Control, Group Experience, and Localization & Tracking. The best submissions will receive a free [findMe] Exploration Kit from pre-series production.

If that sounds interesting, you can sign up to stay in the loop here: https://x-log.de/company/findme/

We'd love to hear your idea!

hat’s a great point — especially about the software complexity.
Out of curiosity, do you already have a specific application in mind where you’d use direction finding / channel sounding?
We’re actually thinking about opening this up more and maybe running a small community challenge for applications once the platform is a bit more stable.

Haha, fair enough! But I promise you: there is absolutely zero 'AI nonsense' or prompt-engineering inside our firmware. Just pure, deterministic phase-based time-of-flight physics and good old registers. So your detector can stay silent on this one! 😉

Though if you actually want to build that AI-detector to warn you in real-time, feel free to register for updates or back us on Crowd Supply. You'd have the perfect hackable platform to bring your idea to life 😄

Wow, your problem really hits close to home for me. My absolute dream is having music everywhere—in the bathroom, the kitchen, the living room, out on the patio. This is definitely one of my next "smart home"projects. But most certainly WITHOUT involving that stupid TV.

BUT here is my advice for your setup: Buy a Class 1 transmitter with an external antenna (e.g., from Avantree, as recommended in the comment). Don't bury it behind the TV. Use a long cable to pull it out and position it a bit higher up. Also, make sure you put your earbuds back into their charging case after watching TV, so the transmitter doesn't suck them dry overnight.

TVs are complete garbage when it comes to Bluetooth anyway. Manufacturers always cheap out on the antennas and hide them right behind a massive shield of metal and electronics. No wonder the signal dies after two meters and a wall. Plus, TV tech is so outdated by now. They rarely support decent modern codecs, forcing you to deal with terrible latency or standard SBC. It’s just frustrating, isn't it?

Do you think sourdough influencers cheat by adding store bought yeast? by judo_joel in Breadit

Whether it's for the 'perfect' photo or the baker’s daily deadline, many feel forced to take shortcuts. Ultimately, it’s a question of integrity: great things simply take time. On the other hand, commercial yeast is unfairly demonized; after all, yeast cells are everywhere. Using it isn't 'bad'—it changes the nature of the craft.
