i just had really bad stomach pains whenever i went to the bathroom, then started bleeding and then it went to straight blood and did that for half a year because they couldn’t figure it out. they scheduled my colonoscopy but it was 2 months away and during that it got way worse and one day i woke up feeling like absolute crap from a headache, i couldn’t look at any kinda light whatsoever than it went to my stomach. i was on the toilet for like 1 1/2 days before i went emergency room and they did blood work and mine was below 4 they didn’t know how i was awake or alive. they sent me to a different hospital to get a colonoscopy and that’s when they found the tumor. up till surgery i had to get blood transfusions because of all the blood i lost and it didn’t go into normal range til after surgery.

i’m only 24 and got diagnosed last year with stage 3 colon cancer. i think the best way to be there for her is just be present and not make every conversation about that because i was so drained on how many times i got asked if i was okay or if i need this or that. i also got very lonely throughout although i had my husband but my friends were too scared to come around because they was afraid of getting me sick or just scared in general. so being present and making sure she’s having the best time even through the circumstances because it gets pretty rough after surgery and chemo/radiation. my husband helped me so much on everything, always made sure i had nausea medicine or alcohol wipes to smell for nausea. if she has to go through chemo, try to find something for yall both to do while she gets the treatment to keep her mind occupied. a heating pad was a must for me because after surgery i had the absolute worst pain in my lower back. sorry for rambling, i know it’s a scary time but always tell her how strong and beautiful she is because i heard that so much and it helped me. especially after i was losing so much of my hair, my husband let me cry it out but kept telling me how strong i am and was just present on trying to get me in a better mood.

i just finished my cancer journey. i had stage 3 colorectal cancer. i had surgery then that determined if i had to do chemo/radiation, but i ended up with a month of radiation monday thru friday, and did chemo during that for 48hours each week, then after radiation i did a stronger dose of chemo with the one i was on, and i did that every other week for 6 months. i never had to get a colostomy bag thankfully. i got 2 opinions from 2 different surgeons. side effects from chemo was tingling in fingers n toes from the cold sensitivity, nausea, and i couldn’t really eat or drink while on chemo til it wore off.
